Well I have contacted quite a few machine shops now, only managed to get one quote and they wanted to build the whole motor, which is not what I wanted.
So, I'm waiting to hear back from a friend who is pulling a 302 out of his Falcon, we have agreed a price, but he is giving his old man first refusal, I will hopefully know where I stand on that by the end of this week.
If that doesn't happen though, then i'm not too sure... Might just slap the motor back together as is, knowing that it is a little self-destructive and gather some more funds for a crate motor in the new year.

Where you based? I've a great shop in Coventry that'll do whatever job you want - sadly not cheap but they do an exceptional job.

At this point i'll be interested in getting a price back from someone that will actually want to do the work. I was given a price to do all the machining and a complete build up with new pistons, cam, paint the lot for £2k Reasonable price for the amount of work, but i'm not looking for a full build on it. Would be very interested to know what the guys you recommend can offer. Much appreciated, Ralph

linkThese are the guys - like I say, not cheap but always done a great job for me (full bottom end balancing, block machining, liner repair of a knackered bore etc.) and in the timescale agreed (seems to be a rare thing for machine shops!). Plus it's a great old world shop hidden among the terrace streets, just visiting is a bit of treat to be honest.

Thanks, much appreciated.
I may have also had some good news in regards to an engine with a couple more cylinders over the weekend...

Did you get anywhere with my suggestion? About the Aussie motors? I did spend a fair amount of time looking in to this as I liked the idea of keeping a 6 in the bay, but i'm trying to keep this simple (he says) and the 302 should drop straight in and cause little headache... Who knows, there may be a time where all that changes again though. The Barra platform is getting a lot of after market support now.

No, I PM'd you about a chap in Coventry who had a 302 in a van Wow, I do apologise, I had a total brain failure! I knew I had details somewhere for another lead to follow up on but couldn't for the life of me figure out where the message was!

Well... The 302 motor fell through and decided to stick with the 6. The idea of the 6 then grew on me and so it is now all shiny and new. What a roller coaster that was. Trundling along nicely now, hopefully take it for a proper run this weekend to Bicester. Vospower in Nottingham did the honours of rebuilding the motor and a lovely job they did too. Had to go 040# over on the bore so the girl was pretty worn! Looks a bit like a diamond in a goats... yeah you get the picture. Had a little measure up for some wheels too... Would love some slightly bigger steels, taller and wider if possible.. But for now it will stay as is and get some miles on it. Then the next thing I want to have a play with is this: More on that later.

Engine looks great! Nothing wrong with a six. Did you order all the parts from the US?
Did your mate end up fitting his dream beam to his f100?

Cheers, i'm pretty chuffed with it!
Yup, parts in from the states as usual haha
Dream beams... Nope, still sat in the box. Every time he comes back from Germany he has a million things to do so just never gets the chance to actually work on the truck. He did manage to get it out for a drive over Christmas though.
I'll nudge him and see what he is doing with them.

Be good if you can give him a nudge as i want to order a beam soon but if he isn't going to use his??

No issues so far with incorrect parts, had a fair few come over too so all good!
@elkyholic i'm afraid the dream beams are being fitted, not sure which year they will get done but he wants to hang on to them!

Nice. Glad you went with the six in the end. They're really very good motors- not what the UK associates with the USA- more the brapbrapbrap of a V8 but tbh straight sixes were the everyday fodder for the longest time- quiet, smooth and fairly peppy for their size.
They only fell out of favor in passenger cars once RWD went away, with V6's taking over for anything that size and up.
