I’m interested in hearing whether anyone has bought and used one - does it work and did it influence how long you went between oil changes?
My understanding is that oil performance does not deteriorate in a linear fashion as it ages / is used, but will drop off fairly suddenly once it goes past its prime - I know most people will say “just change your oil and filter at every X,000 miles and don’t skimp on quality” but I’d be interested in one of these if it allowed you an indication of when your oil might actually be degraded enough to need changing (hence hopefully paying for itself over time and saving on oil being wasted by being changed before it’s useful life is over).
I know there’s nothing like having used engine oil properly analysed by one of the specialist labs for exact results - and the cost of one of these gadgets would pay for two sets of analyses or two oil and filter changes - however long-term I could see one of these being useful over a period of a few years or longer provided it works to a reasonable level of accuracy (allowing for the limitations of how it measures and the 1-10 scale the results show up within).
Any fellow members have experience / thoughts to share for anyone else who’s sad enough to be interested, as I am?
