Professionally restored immaculate 1982 MK1 Golf Gti Tin Top (massive spec)
I will try my best to keep this description as short and simple as possible. The work carried out to the car is absolutely enormous. To try and fit all the details into this description would be impossible. Of course the best way to appreciate the work that has gone into the vehicle would be to come and take a look. I will, of course, post up as many photos as possible.
A quick note on my reasoning for taking on this project: I am madly passionate about cars. I have studied two apprenticeships at BMW, and as well as being a fully qualified mechanic I am also a qualified painter. I currently work for a classic restoration company, restoring cars such as Jaguar E types and various Aston Martin’s. The MK1 has always been a favourite of mine and restoring this car has been a fantastic experience.
Onto the details: I purchased the car in 2016 as a bare shell. I spent my spare time over the following two years fully restoring/modifying the car with no expense spared to the best quality I possibly could. Here is some of the work carried out:
• Any rust/corrosion professionally cut out and metal panels fabricated or bought and areas repaired
• Full bare metal respray (Epoxy primer, filled, primed and painted)
• Full underbody re sealed anti stone chip/corrosion protection and waxoyl
• Abf engine fully rebuilt with new internal and machining work. Engine fitted with original mounts
• Custom 5-1 bias pedal box fabricated and fitted
• Wiring loom tidy inside car
• BC pillow ball adjustable suspension all round (covered max 1000 miles)
• Custom VAG tronics ecu decode and wiring loom conversion
• KW anti roll bars front and rear
• Full Poly bush set up front and rear
• Rose joint track rod flip kit
• Custom seat runners with Recaro reclining bucket seats
• Genuine OMP steering wheel
• Professionally trimmed interior
• Custom hydraulic clutch conversion
• Custom made front upper/lower strut brace as well as rear upper strut brace
• Lower arm rose joint lowering kit
• Custom German made 4-2-1 stainless exhaust manifold and system
• 256mm Vw brake upgrade with rebuild brakes including new seals and pistons etc
• Modern style self adjusting alternator
• Absolutely everything has been renewed, replaced or rebuilt. I have tried my best to acquire genuine parts, and failing this have used the most high quality materials available. From nuts, bolts, brakes and suspension parts to replacement panels, fuel tank and wiring loom everything has been rebuilt
The mileage on the car and current MoT’s put the mileage at just under 8000. This is because I sourced new genuine clocks when I was rebuilding the car
I restored the car with the view that it should look fantastic but more importantly I wanted it be functional. I didn’t intend it to be a ‘show only’ car.
The car handles incredibly well, I have had it set up by a guy in Southampton who specializes in setting up race cars and drift cars. You could take the Golf straight on a track day and be pleased with it.
A few things worth mentioning:
I have driven the car a total of 8000 miles so there may be some very minor stone chips as per usual wear.
The horn is inoperable as I have fitted a smaller omp steering wheel. The rev counter does not work due to the different engine. There is also a slight scuff on the driver’s side front wheel. These are the only faults on the car, it really is mint
I am devastated to be selling the car, but my girlfriend has made threats on my life and says I own too many cars. I can’t go home without the fear that I may not be alive the next morning.
Please ring me on 07469940938 if you fail to get through please leave me a message as I cannot access my voicemail. My email is Z3i@hotmail.co.uk please email me if you would like more photos of the car.
