Don't worry I couldn't afford Boyd Smoothies if I wanted to! I just don't want to use merc alloys, it's a bit obvious if you see what I mean. Trying to think of something a bit different Btw the car come with some handy paperwork as well, it turns out the car was originally bought just round the corner from me! The catalogue could be very useful, and if any fellow W115 drivers need scans of particular pages just let me know

That car rocks HARD! If the two-twenty plate is for real too, then that's proper hardcore..... Don't worry if it smells of wee inside.... ...most chicks are too thick to know you're there and are busy worshipping at the altar of Saxo... any who do find it cool will be cool enough not to mention the stench.....

Bad Boy Benz mate Will drop by home at the weekend to check it out. Should have an official monthly club meet ;D ;D I think some porsche splits would go down a treat or a nice set of 18 inch Schmidts. I know its a bit obvious but there are some awesome modern AMG rims about now well worth a look into. Might need to borrow the welder, the derby is in need of some new metal!!!

Thats a Cool Merc, Cool Merc! - Really nice, I don't know much about old Mercs but I know the stack headlighted ones are my favourite! DirtyDerby - how is your Derby coming along? Sounds like you're getting a bit involved.

Sounds like you're getting a bit involved. Hi Dan I am in the process of repairing the front L/H inner wing as the top wing mounts have virtually rotten away. I have been trying to find some replacement panels and have found a company that still makes panels for mk1 polo's. Have you lowered your Derby? Looking in the haynes manual is looks like you need some special VW tools to get the strut out of the bottom 'Knuckle' mount have you any experience with this? Cheers DD

Cheers DD Sounds like you've got your work cutout there on the front wings Heres a link to some pictures of another Derby project, belonging to a chap called Vic - hopefully they'll give you some inspiration. [ftp]http://groups.msn.com/VWDerbyProject/derbyproject.msnw?albumlist=2 [/ftp] Yes i've lowered my Derby (roughly 60mm all round) using Apex springs. I ended up taking off the whole hub assemblies including the driveshafts (unbolting the driveshafts from the gearbox outputs) Disconnecting the roll bar and steering tie rods aswell as unbolting the brake calipers from the hub - phew! Unbolting the tie rods was probably the hardest part as there's nothing to hold the joint side still whilst unbolting from the top (& there isn't the room to get an air gun in) P.S; The aftermarket front springs were 'pigtailed' at the top where-as the originals are the same dia all the way up, so I ended up having to use MK1 Golf/MK2 Scirroco top spring cups which are the smaller, correct size.

Thanks for the tips, when i looked at the manual it reminded me of an old Alfa Sud. Apparently Mk1 Polos/Derby are one of the few cars that have a true fully Mcpherson front strut set up. (Whatever that means ) I will post some pics of the rust, muck and bullets at the weekend so you can see the extent of the damage.

DirtyDerby, it would be nice to see some 'work-in-progress' pictures of you're Derby. Not sure about the Macpherson strut thing (I know the suspension was pretty much the same on all MK1, Mk2 and MK3 Polos) Also that once a certain amount of lock is applied, my Derby's steering will not self centre - something which could be cured apparently with some Kingpin angle jiggery pokery. Back to Cool Benz's new beauty, I would keep it black and sinister, just a drastic lowering job and some nice shiny Torque Thrust wheels - oh a re-apply all that chrome trim ;D
