For Sale is my Mercedes Benz 200 (W123) Petrol, Saloon, Manual Four Speed Box, in Cream.
General History
Registered in 1982 and driven down in Surrey for the first 5 years of its life. The service history is fantastic and has had all its intervals stamped from what I can see.
It was then bought by Newgate Motors Mercedes in Chester and sold on to a local couple who purchased the car and had it until 2015 I believe again there is a lot of history and receipts from there ownership too.
It was then bought of them by a chap who runs a wedding car service in Chester so was put back on the road by him. It has recently had some welding and new brakes to get it trough the MOT.
So is now ready to go until June 2019.
It also has its original build sheet, handbook, service book and a lot of past MOT's as well as receipts. The car still has the original Mercedes first aid kit which is untouched as well.
I bought it with the intention of running it to a few shows and cruises this year but due to change in circumstances it now has to go. I’m gutted as I’ve been after one for a number of years and this ticks a hell of a lot of boxes.
I will have the V5 in my name prior to selling.
Tax is £267.75 or £22.31 a month so peanuts.ive got the car on a classic policy and its £100 for the year and I'm 31 with no NCB so that's rediculously cheap for a Mercedes.
So the car itself is in good condition for 36 years old.
Bodywork
For 36 years old this big Saloon is in great condition (6.5-7/10) the floor pan is solid and has had some welding in the past so is good to go for a number of years. Sills are solid as are jacking points. The arches show some signs of aging and bubbling but again if I was keeping it I'd repair but not worth it. Battery tray is solid which is prone to go on these. Bonnet has some scratches and marks and it does need one of the hinge springs refitting but I will hopefully have that fixed in the next day or so.
Chrome and bright work is in good condition and bumper rubbers are in fine too. Grill has no dents and bonnet badge is present. Window rubbers are slightly perished and if I was keeping it I would replace those more for aesthics than anything as there are no signs of leaks.
Doors are solid and boot is in great condition as well. There are some areas starting to come through but this is a useable classic and is very solid. If it was mint it would be double what I'm asking so don't expect a new showroom vehicle. I can certainly send more images if needed so just let me know. Is fitted with the Hella headlamps which have no cracks and the tears are good as well with no cracks. All lights work too.
Supplying dealer plates fitted as well.
Engine and Transmission
Is a 1997cc and has done 179100(car in use daily so will change) th engine is strong and smooth and picks up well. No oil leaks or issues that I'm awar of. The under bonnet is all original and has benefited from a great service history. A lot of the original engine warning stickers and deals are still present. Has had a new battery recentlay fitted from the looks of it as well, had had new plugs too. Oil pressure is perfect and has run fantastically even with the soaring temperatures we've had these last few weeks.
Four speed manual gearbox, is smooth and goes through the gears with no trouble. Car is happy cursing at 70mph on the motorway. Clutch is fine and has no issues either.
Brakes
Are strong and have had work for MOT so are all good. Pedal is good with no play so stops true. Handbrake is good and no issues.
Suspension and Steering
Steering is responsive and no knocking or leaks any where. Has the usual one inch play in the wheel but is a joy to drive. Suspension is soft and smooth and there are no leaks from the shocks. No knocking or clonks from anywhere.
Wheels and Tyres
Original steel wheels with Mercedes chrome and painted hub caps in great condition. Worth a lot of money in this condition. Tyre's have plenty of tread and life in them.
Interior
Is honest and original. There is wear to the drives seat as you'd expect and the springs in the seat are bouncy to say the least. All gauges and switches work. Fire extinguisher presently fitted on console for safety. Dash is in good condition with no splits or cracks. Fitted with original radio which works fine. Original Mercedes first aid kit is present on back shelf. Missing passenger mats and the drivers side floor is missing its soundproofing but carpet is in good condition. Sunroof works and is water tight. No electric windows or mirrors so less to go wrong but all mechanism work fine. Door trims are all intact it could benefit from a good clean. Steering wheel leather is perfect which little sign of wear, horn works too. Boot has spare present and original jack but has some trim missing.
Overall if your looking for a starter classic then this is a great choice. It's solid and smooth, very reliable and looks the nuts. Completely original and loved car. With time and effort this could be even better. I'd love to keep it and slam it down put a roof rack on it and in the purists eyes ruin it but sadly it's got to go.
Looking for £3250 ONO, no swaps or stupid offers. Cash on collection. Appreciating classic with prices only going one way.
Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or you'd like to come see the car. More pictures available on request
