Does anyone know if the current rules for registering an imported vehicle still need the car or bike to be insured?
I'm trying to register a vintage bike that's been here for years but needs nova first, and then registering. But sometimes insurance is mentiomed, other times it states only for Northern Ireland.
Also not sure on the mot now as it's a 1976 bike so not sure it needs an mot to register either.
Any help appreciated, been a ball ache trying to find out a way round nova and now Is rather not insure if I can help it as it needs work to make me happy with it.

Does not need to be insured for a Uk mainland address. Does need to be insured for a NI one.
Doesn't need to be MOTed, but it's far less likely to get an inspection if it is.

Thanks brilliant should save me lots of trouble then
Hard to mot as its probably only likely to get a daytime mot, don't want to buy the lights , Speedo etc that are missing if it's unlikely to be able to be registered
Cheers again ☺

They won't register it with 'bits missing'.
That will most definately include a speedo, as they always seem to want to write the milage down even though it's totally meaningless.

Oh, well I better carry on collecting parts,
It's an old enduro bike, someone pulled the lights etc off years ago to race it in vintage motox , I always planned on registering it and moting it daytime mot.
I've got a set of lights, Speedo and two original looms to make a good one but they arnt as nice as the rest of the bike, plus some hard to find switchgear.
It Can be made to appear correct
Cheers for the info ☺

Yeah they don't check the functionality of anything. Just has to 'be complete' and 'look roadworthy'.
Although they insisted on looking at the speedo and writing down the milage in the cars I've had inspected, they never asked if they were attached to anything 😉
