This was a customer (and former employee!) car delivered to us last week for a full respray, but after we had stripped it and found it needed extra work (welding primarily) it was agreed that we would take ownership of the car rather than charge for the labour incurred to that point, so here we are!
It’s a really worthwhile project though and one which would ideally suit someone who can weld themselves. Realistically, there’s only a few hours work there. It just needs a bit of welding around the front end/inner wing areas. 3 of the 4 doors have small holes in the bottom outer skins, so needs a tiny area cutting out and welding in ideally a new real balance putting in.
We do have 4 front wings that came with the car, but they’re all past it unless you really want to save them, but new front wings are readily available for these. We actually have a brand new pair here, but they will being sent back unless anyone wants them at cost to help with this project. It will also require a new windscreen as the old one, which had a crack in it anyway was broken on removal.
It’s a simple and worthy project as it’s an early MK2 (1.3 CL) with only 77k on the clock. No history, but clearly original trim and the condition of that certainly suggests this is genuine. The OSF wing had clearly never been removed before and was still being held by the original factory sealer.
All trim is very good inside. Will require new exterior rubbers and mouldings etc if you want a high end example. Is fitted with a Sony CD headunit and front speakers and it had been fitted with brand new coilovers on Tuesday the day before it came to us, which is £200 worth right there!
Photos to follow as I struggle to upload them from my phone, but in the mean time I can email some if anyone is interested. Well worth £400, which is what it owes us and could be a cool car once done and idea Retro daily.
