On the test run after fitting a LSD to my sons AE86 the car conked out, many sparks near the coil led us to discover the rotor arm had failed. Is this just down to old age or could there be some underlying problem. Got a new one and it fired up straight away.

I've had a hairline crack in one - caused a misfire once warmed up that took me ages to find. Managed to crack the cylinder head first...
