well , popped out last night for a local show , and on exit ,surrounded my mobs of eager locals , may have slightly over powered the rear tyre a trifle. there was a thump , then it span the wheels like normal for a few 100 ft , then there was a cacophany of bangs and lumpy noises ,and the car allowed me to pull off the main rd before locking solid and not moving . bum ! investigating ,i reached underneath and pulled this out.. half of my rhs halfshaft ,minus the uj ! my freinds alan and wayne came and dragged the car up ,wheels locked ,onto a transit flatbed ,and took me home , worrying thing was the lhs rear wheel was locked ,that's the one with the good halfshaft.... wonder what's broken !? its a tuscan 4hu salibury lsd powr lok diff , so pretty blimmen strong ... i would have thought! regards robert.

My Vixen has been upgraded to Salisbury diff just like the Tuscan V6 and Griffith400s.
Got a picture of the diff in the car?

What rear uprights does it have? Looks to be 5-bolt?

What rear uprights does it have? Looks to be 5-bolt? i used stock tvr uprights , bearing carriers were then machined to take jaguar bearing sizes and drive flanges and stub axles , which were then machined and had circular drive flanges tig welded on , then two jagur v12 prop shafts were shortened and mig welded ,and bolted in as half shafts .after i converted the diff output flanges to propshaft flanges .
at least i think that's what i did , it was done 1987 ,and has had a lot of abuse drag racing etc since then ...here it is in 'desert storm' livery in 1993..
re the original thread question ...well it looks like i got out of jail free
jacked it up ,and now the lhs spins freely , and the diff sounds fine , so jacked up the other side and it was siezed solid .
thought about it a bit ,and ,compared to the other side, the handbrake cable outer sleeve mounting plate looked a touch bent down , so got a big crowbar ,and flexed it up a few mm , bingo free wheeling .
noice!
my guess is that in mid wheelspin i hit a pot hole , snapped the uj ,and the flailing halfshaft bent the brake mount and pulled on the hand brake , which pulled the other side on too.
now its all free i can roll it into the shed ,and fix the shaft and see if it works ...or not ..
regards robert.
