Assume that is to get to minimum height for the C&U regs of the time but boy is that ugly ! Would it be an option now to leave at the lower height and fix in place with modern lights ? James Speaking as an ex-G15 owner, I can assure you that gravity, time and metal oxide will do all that for you without having to fit modern lights.

James No one ever moves them - which is why no one really notices that they have them. - I'm not sure about the height regs of the time but it may be to get around the fact that lights actually sit below the body line so are slightly masked. If an MOT man got sniffy - Mot exempt now of course - you can pop them up to clear.

I've been around imps and therefore ginettas for 20 years, never seen one with the lights up, in fact until the post above I never even knew they moved. These tend to sneak through unnoticed as well G15 project on eBay at the moment - Just couple of days in and its already at £1800 Ginetta G15 project So many missing parts and only the one key one. My guess - £3,800 - But at £1,800 its already way over what I would pay for it.

The lamp pod mould has been broken in with the laying up of a light duty part that will act as a mould protector and the first true part is currently in production. Mould protector - Gel + a 300g single lay up - or if you prefer a ultra light racing pod First full lay-up pod being moulded, but even with a 3 x 300g layup it is likely to be half the weight of a standard Ginetta unit.

Started the day stripping the drivers door on the G21S - removing rusted in screws with pincers. It was a bit of a chore but got them all out with no damage to the door card The usual rusty remnants in the door bottom but not as bad as the passenger side. I then set about removing the old hinges - looks like the door catches/stays on this are pretty good and will salvage okay. The rattle gun made short work of getting all of the rusty bolts out. And after removing all these from the door I removed the lower hinge plate from the car - Just the top one to do now but for that I need to remove that old radio so I can get access. After lunch I decided to complete the work on the dash rail on the G21M so I TIG welded the sleeves in to the ends and bolted the rail in twisted the rail to suit the dash / steering angle And then MIG welded the two together - and then made and fitted a centre support. That did for the day as I am waiting for a part to arrive that will hopefully work to complete the steering by joining all the components together....... Hopefully.

G15 project went for £3510 - I thought that it may stretch to another couple of hundred in the last 30 seconds but it didn't - I also noticed that the Red G15 project that had been on eBay for quite a few months suddenly vanished. I suspect that someone thought that if that project missing 50% of it's parts was at £2000 at that stage the that project must be worth £5000. Buying the Orange car on car and Classic would have been a far better option - as this is quite good value as there are some hints on this one that it could be quite a gem.

Final part required for the completion of the steering work on the G21M arrived this lunchtime. As mentioned previously the MX5 column needs to be extended and match up with the lower UJ - My preference was to only have one weld as the original MX5 column and in the same place if possible which meant tracking down a longer lower shaft with the same splines for the rack UJ. Putting Mazda steering column type searches in eBay came up with two options - Mazda Bongo! and RX8 - further searching for info led to some talk on RX8 forums of MX5 steering UJ's fitting the RX as a better priced option and the pictures in auctions looked like the lower column could be long enough. So £26 with delivery and an RX8 column arrived. Prior tests had shown that the G21 steering rod was the right length and diameter to fit the MX5 column but wrong spline diameter and number so I was quite pleased when the RX8 was as long as thought it may be - plus a bit - and as the forums had indicated the spline numbers and diameter match the MX UJ just needs a mod to key it. Interesting that the RX is not welded like the MX but has much longer splines pressed into the upper tube part. Happy with that, a step closer to steering.

I am really pleased that the threads and works detailed have provided assistance with your build - I like to think that if such a thing as Karma exists then if the posts I make provide assistance in getting others through projects then maybe that's the enabler that provides me with the opportunities I get presented. I should really get moving on mine.

Captain Itchy from Nr. Nantwich has been busy this week producing more O/S G15 lamp pods than necessary - Just 'cos he can... The Gel + 3 x 300g pod - which he estimates takes 8 hours from start to finish to produce due to waiting times between processes. And a Ginetta style lay-up of no gel and 2 x 600g - 2.5 hours.

Steering - again RX8 lower tacked to the MX5 top - column was probably in and out a dozen times to get to this stage. Loads of work to get to this stage as well - glassfibre trimming - nibbling away at bits of steel for clearance and the clearance hole in the suspension tower. It steers - still loads to do to tidy it all up and fix it and another support for the upper column required but the hard work is done. Going to throw the wiring loom on it tomorrow and see what happens clicks and buzzes.

Whilst that was going on in Shropshire the gearbox rebuild for the G15 was being completed in Coventry. Looks like a nice day out there - I may try and get a new hinge fitted on the G21S today. I will also try and get around to getting it up in the air so I can get under it to cut off all the rusty bolts holding the drivers seat in together with those nasty exhaust brackets etc. It will laso afford me the opportunity to get some good pictures of the chassis - I am hoping that the photo's of this chassis may make folk who are rebuilding Ginetta's feel a bit better about the tasks they are having to endure with their rebuilds.

All the rusted in bolts holding the seat plus and few more removed from the chassis - drivers seat out. So, how bad is the chassis. Safe to say it needs a bit of work. I have no idea what this is attempting to do because if its some form of engine damper then its in rather the wrong place. I had also wondered what the clonk...clonk...clock noise was when pushing the car about - handbrake shoe lever hitting wheel ribs Out of phase UJ's - probably factory as well. Other than that it's all good Started the wiring installation of the G21M Coming along.

Been a while since I checked in here and there's tons of progress. Making me miss doing fabrication jobs (I've been non-stop sanding filler and paint for months).
