RIGHT HAND DRIVE ORIGINAL UK MARKET CAR NOT A NASTY BURNT-OUT SOUTH AFRICAN IMPORT!
Year: 1972
Make: Lancia
Model: Fulvia Berlina (saloon) 2nd series
Engine: 1298 cc DOHC narrow angle monobloc V4 with 2 twin choke carburettors, 5-speed gearbox, and four-wheel disc brakes.
History: This Berlina is a rolling restoration. It has had NEW FRONT WINGS, NEW REAR WHEELARCHES and NEW VERY STRONG SILLS but still needs a few other parts of the body improving...
BODYWORK
It will need a new rear valance fabricating, or adapting from another car - there are Lancia body experts who could do this.
The front valance is OK but a new old stock one can be bought from David Ashworth in the UK and quite easily fitted: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lancia-Fulvia-Berlina-Saloon-NEW-front-lower-valance-original-panel/332649738376?fits=Model%3AFulvia+Berlina&hash=item4d73783088:g:WsUAAOSwCGVYAf5r
There is a small hole at the base of the rear pillar (NOT by the window but caused by the bright trim fixing) and a couple of rusted parts on the roof guttering (NOT perforated yet).
Bonnet and boot lids are excellent, no rust that I can see, these are heavily wax treated too.
The subframe and its mountings are excellent, as is the floorpan and all the underside, it is solid and safe, and heavily waxoil treated.
NEW DOORS SUPPLIED
A set of four good doors has been obtained from Italy, these will come with the car - they are gold in colour. There are spare set of cream and black door cards, spare brakes, brake pads, seals, master cylinder parts
BRAKES
the master cylinder and all the calipers have been rebuilt and work perfectly, with new seals, flexi and cupro-nickel pipes and fluid and dust seals and new pads.
The handbrakes have been stripped and rebuilt and work perfectly.
Brake pipes are almost all new cupro-nickel (just the front to rear centre pipe is steel and is heavily waxoiled) and new rubber flexibles on the front, the rear flexible is excellent, not very old.
ELECTRICS
NEW BATTERY - I will fit a new battery when you come and collect the car - it has a good one on it anyway but I have a new 45 amp battery on the shelf so you can have this fitted.
Everything works fine except the reverse lights and underbonnet light have been disconnected - this is very common on these Lancias and is easily fixed. The expensive Carello headlights are all original and in great condition, I have taken these out, cleaned them and their wiring and waxoiled behind all the lights, front and rear. Interior lights are LED and all work, door edge red lights all work fine.
LOCKS
All locks work perfectly, doors all open and shut fine.
ENGINE
The car has 125,000 miles on the clock, I think this is correct (cannot see why not!) and it has had no significant mechanical work and it is still surprisingly fast, with terrific handling and brakes.
I have recently checked the valve clearances (all perfect) and fitted new plugs and points and checked ignition timing, adjusted carburettors etc.
The engine uses no oil or water, it has electronic ignition (uses points but at very low voltage so they last forever) fitted which means instant starting and better performance. You can switch instantly from electronic to conventional points with a switch under the bonnet.
The water pump works fine, no leaks, the hoses are good, there is a spare top hose with the car.
The radiator could do with a rebuild sometime, it has a leak at the top but these Lancias run very cool and it NEVER overheats.
It has the standard electric cooling fan which works perfectly (very rarely comes on) and there is a manual override switch under the dash.
The thermostat housing (inlet manifold water rail) and thermostat has been renewed and the (new) thermostat works perfectly.
It returns 40-45 mpg on a run and 25-35 mpg around town and/or when driven hard.
GEARBOX
The 5-speed box works perfectly , a little slow into second gear when cold, as all Italian cars are, the clutch is good with no slip and no dragging.
DRIVESHAFTS
These are all good with recent new rubber gaiters, no leaks or noises.
SUSPENSION
It has KONI adjustable front dampers with new poly bushes on the bottom wishbones, all good ball joints and excellent steering box and idler.
The rear suspension has been stripped and greased, and has very good springs and dampers.
The wheel bearings are all good, I have rebuilt one rear one and checked over the others.
TYRES AND WHEELS
The Fulvia has a mix of Michelin zx and Nankang tyres on it.
I will supply 2 AS NEW Michelin ZX/MX tyres in the correct size - 155/80 14, and two excellent Goodyears as well.
The wheels have been repainted the correct Buttermilk colour and have good hub caps and trim rings - some of the trim rings are a bit dented but still smart enough.
The interior
This is a cream vinyl on the front seats and black painted vinyl to the rear. The front seats have some splits but are quite usable, the rear seats are excellent.
The carpets are original and very worn, would need replacing in the front.
The headlining is excellent, as are the interior lights (these are LED now) and the sunvisors are OK.
The HEATER woks perfectly, I rebuilt the water valves and the dash controls and it is very powerful and warms up fast.
RADIO
There is a BECKER EUROPA radio fitted, again this is worth a lot of money - £250-500, it has FM, LW, SW and MW and works well.
GLASS
All glass is excellent, the wipers work fine as do the washers, all the windows go up and down etc, and no water leaks into the interior.
All the instruments are working well, the rev counter does not work with the electronic ignition switched on but you can switch back and forth easily.
It has a rebuilt electronic original (NOT quartz) Veglia Borletti clock to go with it - these are also fitted to Ferraris of the period and sell for up to £750 so you can cash that in if you wish!
There is a FULL toolkit with jack etc, again these fit Ferrari etc and sell for up to £500 so another bonus!
here is a very smart one of these (BUT LHD) on ebay at £15,000: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lancia-Fulvia-Series-2-saloon-1971-Manual-LHD/323248561462?hash=item4b431d9d36:g:JBcAAOSwRdta8w9w
I don't expect to get that but this is a chance to buy a Lancia classic car (and much better built than a Fulvia coupe) for a great price, improve it fitting the replacement doors provided, a new rear valance and a paint job and tidy the interior and you would have a real classic car that should be worth £7000-10000 realistically.
The car is MOT tested until 20 June but is now MOT exempt. I am happy to show it to you at any reasonable time, it is garaged in Central London. CALL ME, DO NOT MESSAGE PLEASE: 07896 921115.
Bring a deposit and you can drive it to test it, bring some cash and you can drive it home. I would have no hesitation in driving it any distance.
The car is well known in the Lancia club and has been owned by several real Lancia enthusiasts so nothing is bodged up on the car, it is a pleasure to work on, fixings all greased etc, no rusted on bolts etc.
It is worth much more than this but it has to go so make a bid and drive a quality Italian car for the price of a very ordinary classic...
