Right, so I'm getting sick of sliding every time I stomp on the brakes, so it's time to get some new rubber. I want to get some basic steels in roughly the same size as the rims I aim to get so I can make sure it all fits dandy before I fork over lots of cash for said rims. So, I'm looking at 14x7 on the front and 14x8 on the rear.
Now the problem is I'm coming from 14x5, they are running 195/75r14 tyres at the moment. I am ok with the amount of sidewall, I could do with a little less, but I'd rather keep the rolling diameter as close to the same as possible.
The issue I am having, is finding basically anything that will actually fit this size. And I am unsure if I'm looking at the right sizes?
Most of the stuff that comes up for a 215/65r14 tends to be for small trucks and vans.
So I guess what I want to know is, what size tyre should I be looking for?
A 14x8 fits under the rear ok, and was a little pokey on the front, so 7 should be fine there.
Cheers in advance.

Hi, Have a play around with this - www.tyresave.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator/ 195x60x14 seems a good match. Tyre choice can be a bit limited in 14" and a lot are, as you say, van tyres. Can you go up a wheel diameter or two where tyre choice will be better? Colin

I've found it get increasingly difficult to find 14" tyres that aren't rated for vans, particularly when you're trying to get different front and back. Somebody recommended Uniroyal Rainmasters as a good 14" car tyre. This isn't an answer to your specific question, I know, but I thought I'd pass on the tire recommendation anyway. A quick look at Blackcircles website has 14" at 70 profile in the 'RainExpert' tyre. www.blackcircles.com/tyres/brands/uniroyal/rainexpert#anchorAllSizesThe other brand to try is Avon because they carry a lot of 14" sizes, but my experience with the cheaper Avon option is that you may as well be on ice if the road get's a little bit wet and you take any corners with vague enthusiasm.

A 195 is way too wide for a 5" rim to start with. They'd typically be suited to a 6"-6.5" rim.
something in the 195-215 range is fine for a 7" rim. On the 8" you'd be looking at a 225-245, for 'normal' fitment.
As mentioned they're not particularly common sizes in 14" anymore, you'd be looking at what a specialist like north hants tyres can supply.

Yeah, it's still on factory steels, and the 195s look pretty balloony, but it kinda suits, in it's own way. The internet tells me 195/70 is stock, I should dig my manual out and take a look. Yes, according to my tyre calculations 195 would be ok on 7s, Dez. That's why I was kind of confused about them being the same as on my 5s. But I didn't actually think to see what size was meant to go on 5s, haha. That would make sense. Being on the other side of the world doesn't help much for places to go for tyres, but brands and actual size advice is much appreciated. I guess my main problem is finding something in the correct size that isn't a cheap chinese van tyre. I'll have to go talk to someone at a tyre shop and see what they can get me in, I suppose. I was hoping to get some Pirelli P1s or something but they don't seem to come in the right sizes.
