So, i have a set of Princess callipers that are split so would like to replace them. I also have some AP Forest callipers but they have no lugs!!!
I would prefer a direct bolt on equivalent.
I see that Hi-Spec do a 'Princess' calliper replacement but not sure of their quality?
Any suggestions or experience would be welcomed.
Cheers

Before something is suggested.
What car is it? What discs were used/meant to be used with the Princess 4 pots? What car is it and what did it have out of the factory? What makes you think it needs a brake upgrade? TBH all brake upgrades are good but it's always good to hear about what your reasoning is.
I ask all of these questions not to be patronising, but to hopefully suggest the right outcome.

So, Chrysler Sunbeam. Road use. Fitting an AJ30 3.0 V6. Normally the car would have P14 callipers. The Sunbeam Lotus had M16. I am using 505GTI discs, these were used on my race car, the Avenger Tiger, these are 265mm and fit the Princess calliper perfectly, the Princess Callipers eventually split and i then fitted AP Forest Callipers, these were never ideal as they were second hand and the mounting lugs had been modified before i got them. The AP lugs started to fail so i replaced them with AP4567 Callipers but i increased the size of the disc to 276mm from a 206GTI. This leaves the 265mm free and able to be used on the Sunbeam, sadly the set sets of callipers i have that fit them are scrap, hence my question.

We have used Hi-spec a few times and have had no issues. Speak to Alex and he'll be able to run through your options.

Hi Nev.
I'm in the midst of doing a lot of work on my Avenger currently. For the brakes I have used Peugeot 406 V6 coupe (Brembo) calipers up front. They are aluminium 4 pots, bolt straight onto the Avenger/Sunbeam strut, and weight much, much less than the Princess calipers. They cost about the same.
The best disc I could find after scouring the catalogues is also from a Peugeot 406 (not the V6). You need the 283mm versions. They will need machining down to 269/270mm, and the 4 mounting holes will need drilling along with a tiny increase in centrebore diameter. You'll then need to use 6mm washers to mount the caliper so it centralises correctly.
You'll also need to run a 14" wheel, as I think 13" will catch.
I have a few pictures if you like.

Ok, thats interesting about the 406 Brembo's.
I have a large selection of 13" wheels i would rather use than go up to 14" or15". Although i do have a set of 15" Compomotive MO's.
Yes seeing a few photo's would help.

If that's the case make sure you get the right sized pistons with whatever calipers you buy; they vary even in the model ranges.
Peugeot 406 ones aren't miles away from the Princess calipers and will be lighter. You may get a slightly longer pedal however but improved braking.
Just to clarify a few things:
1) You had P14s and standard 2) When it became a race car you went to 505 GTi discs on Princess calipers but with the same master cylinder. If that is the case did your pedal travel increase quite a bit? If so, did your braking power go up alot in terms of when the pads hit the disc as well as fade resistance?
If you are looking for the same amount of braking power definitely stay with the same piston size (38mm in your case). If you can live with a little less braking power but a firmer brake pedal I'd then consider going slightly smaller on the piston size.

As the fitment is the same as an Escort it might be worth asking on one of the FB pages like Escortosis. I've heard some people says that some of the M16 replacement calipers aren't to clever but can't remember which ones. Don't AP do a princess calliper in Aluminium? Probably pricey though

ChasR,
The time line of the brakes was not quite like that as the car already had M16 as replacement for the P14 when it was a road car and i had moved to a bias pedal assembly after i fitted the Princess callipers but fitted rear discs. The standard Estate M/C was more than adequate for travel and feel prior to the bias set up. On the Sunbeam i will use another Estate M/C or 22mm depending.
Interestingly, the biggest difference to the pedal came from fitting Pagid pads, RS-4 i think, i had tried various EBC and found them to be awful for feel.
Jonsey,
AP do one? As you say maybe a bit pricey. I had searched to see if there was any review of the various Hi-SPec and Wilwood callipers but i wasn't that successful.
