Hi, here is my mk1 ford escort 1300E. genuine E, model uk car and all original, needing restoring. its a 1975 model, which is tax exempt and from may will be mot exempt too. i have v5 (think I'm only 3rd or 4th owner) i have a little bit of history (old tax and mot papers) only selling due to needing space.
basicaly the car was last road worthy in 2008. since then it has been parked up (so has suffered from English weather!) i will list what needs doing, but cannot stress enough how original and period the car is. if you are looking for a quick fix then a re- shell may be a good route to look into. you can pick up a solid lhd shell for around £1500. although it is a worthy resto project if you don't mind welding.
- interior is all complete and very good condition (dash, seats, door cards, door furniture, headlining etc) wooden cappings all there too (need a varnish) and one small rip on drivers seat boulster. the carpets are missing.
- roof. water has got under the vinyl and rusted it along the edges. gutters pretty good. i have had many different opinions- weld in a strip each side. plate. unpick the spot welds and replace top skin. or just cut at pillers and source a replacement roof.
- bonnet and bootlid straight and solid, just want prep and paint.
- chrome all excellent. i cant belive how well it has survived! very minor pitting, if any. its all there and straight no dents etc.
- doors. front drivers is perfect condition. other 3 are starting to go at the bottoms, may want a re skin or plate the bottoms.
- scuttle panel- the corners are starting to go. to be honest an easy fix. scuttle corner repair panels easily and cheaply avalible.
- front wings- original flared arch wings specific to a mexico, rs 2000, and E models. these are starting to go. but to be honest will weld up with some time and repairs.
- rear arches one wants replacing, one not too bad. but again, repair panels avalible pretty cheap.
- cills and floors are actually pretty solid- cant see any rust or holes.
- boot floor is remarkably solid, with only a tiny hole to plate over at the bottom of the spare wheel well- where they all go!
- engine, original, turns by hand. i was told it ran a year ish ago. i haven't tried but with a bit of an over haul, some petrol and a battery i see no reason why it wont start straight up. looks to have the up rated carb/ and 4 branch manifold, as you would expect on the E models.
- strut tops have been plated up. they are solid but look a bit agricultural to me. i would want to re do them or tidy them up a bit before i prime and paint.
- bulkhead, just starting to rust along the bottom of the heater bowel, by the passanger side.
- front and rear valances look pretty solid.
please be aware that this is a project and will want lots of time spent on it, although having said that, escorts are rising in value fast. and restoring a desirable mode such as an E will be a worthy investment. I'm gutted to be selling, but realy am desperate for the space, and needs to go to someone who can give it the attention it deserves.
to be honest, having searched around, i cannot see another E to compare it to. there seem to be more mexicos for sale than 1300E 'S !!!
i can help with transport if need be. car is in hertfordshire. any questions, feel free to get in touch. thanks, matt
