Old fellow down the road has a 89 Sierra, asked me to look at it because the dash and other warning lights have stopped working.
I did get them to work by unplugging the alternator light connection at the back of the alternator, but it didn't last!
The symptoms are: The battery charge light isn't on, either with the engine running or not running.
The alternator isn't charging.
All dash warning lights, dash illumination and other minor dash related electrics not working
When I unplugged the alternator charge light from the alternator, it cured it for a couple of hours.
.
The wiring to the charge light seems good, it shows continuity on a meter.
The alternator gave a healthy charge while it was working for the short while.
The wiring diagram show a Diode between the battery light and the alternator, could this be the problem and where and how do I fix it?
Thanks
