This might sound a strange one to you guys, but surely, for one reason or another you've had cars/bikes that you've never actually driven/rode on the open road? Now there are many reasons why this could happen, so has anyone done it and can give examples? Too big a project and lack of time/money/motivation could mean the RR being put on the back burner for ever more. For me, driving is an evil necessity now rather than a pleasurable experience and I want to get from A to B as quickly (legal speeds of course) as possible. I'm more than happy to see the RR chilling out than have the annual count-down to MOT armageddon, especially as I've driven them before and they're not so exciting This probably explains my hoarder thread. I'm not too bothered if they never get back on the road tbh as long as they've been saved from the crusher/being broken.

To me, it's essential that they are in road-going condition and available to use. One thing I like about most museums is that despite what people might normally think, they do tend to be driving and sometimes are taken out. You see that sometimes on special featurette car programmes on TV.
Personally I've had several vehicles I never got to use. Not counting some stuff that I've driven for a while, then laid up to do some work on, my Austin 7 for example, I've competed in that and driven it plenty, but not since 2015 when I started stripping it down. Bought and sold another one in the meantime though.
I never rode any of my CZ motorbikes - always something more to do, eventually sold them all. Oh, I did buy a black one with an MOT and rode it once around the big yard I was working in then - then parked it up and didn't ride it again. Can't explain that one even now. Weird.
I've never driven my Alfa 164. I can't wait. I've driven one that I've owned, but not this one, the keeper.
I've never driven my Skoda Rapid. I've had a couple before as well but this one I've had running, but never even engaged gear in. Needs bodywork.
The Cadillac, S110R and Fiat have all been off the road for a couple of years and I miss all of them, but I've learned to be patient. I'm glad I have nothing that I have never driven or driven another example of - so even the cars I haven't driven, I know exactly how they feel to drive. Every single one of them I am looking forward to getting out on the tarmac. I've had a weird sense of thrill/anticipation over the thought of getting behind the wheel of the Skoda Favorit I bought recently - it's around 8/9 years since I last had any of mine on the road regularly.

I bought a few years ago a 15 year old bike that was never been on the road. It was brand spanking new/old. I had it for 2 years. Never used it either. Sold it as I just could not do anything with it.
I have a BMW 525i tucked away for a fair few years now. I have no intentions to drive it but the other day I finally got an idea what I gonna do with it. The plan is to restore it and give it to my son when he turns 30 in 3 years time.

I've not had any that I had no intentions of driving, even with my current collection, some have been off the roadd since I bought them, but I have driven them all at least once, and I intened to drive them again.

I can't imagine not wanting to drive something I own! The only running and driving car I have ATM that I've never driven is my 914. Bought it as a stripped out shell with about forty boxes of bits, finally got it together enough for an MoT in 2016, had a mate take it there for me, and all the time since then I've spent on actually getting it properly finished. Once it's all back together it'll get an inspection, I might use it for a bit, and then it'll get sold. It's funny, but I've no real emotional attachment to it and all I can really see in it is a large chunk of mortgage disappearing. Had a project clearout about a year and a half ago and sold an oak green GTI to another pal. He's nearly finished a properly involved restoration on it but he's not touched all the mechanical stuff I'd done, which makes me happy. He's agreed to buy the '68 bay I bought and never started next. I'm never getting involved in a big project like the 914 ever again, unless it's something really special. Like a 911.

The only cars that I've owned with no intention of driving are donor cars for other projects. If you just want something to look at, scale models take up a lot less space, unless indoor space isn't a problem of course.

Roughly 20% of all the cars I've owned have not been on the road but that's because I've used them for parts/events.
Personally I would never buy a car without the purpose of racing, using on the road or providing parts to one of the previous activities.
I just don't see the point.

I Know serial restorers (who have day jobs too) who restore one car after another, then, after a brief bedding in period to iron the inevitable bugs out, sell them, buy another and repeat the process. And others, like the OP who just like to buy and save cars, for posterity or W H Y.
Me, I just like driving fast cars! The building is a means to an end, since I can't imagine (or afford) to just go out and BUY a fast car that someone else has built. All my cars are bought with this end in mind, it sometimes doesn't turn out that way and I have bought project cars and then moved them on without ever getting them driveable, but it's never any part of my plans to do this, just the usual "too many cars, too little time/money" scenario.

I still haven't driven my mk2, haven't even seen it for 2 of the 2.5 years I have had it!
If I had no intention of driving it, it would be getting sold on and the money put into replacing the entire fleet.
Don't see the point having a car and not driving it.

There are lots of mk2’s I own one, but is it the same mk2, who knows?

Only had one car I never drove, a Trabant, but I had owned another before it, Christ knows why I bought the second one, but that’s probably the reason I didn’t drive it! I’ve got a few cars I only do a hand full of miles a year in, (mk2 RS 2000,bought it in 2001 but not driven at all since 2005) Got loads of motorbikes I’ve never used, I guess it’s a nice problem to have, but the more you own, the less you use each of them, stands to reason, I suppose

I have an MG Midget which I swapped early this year for my Porsche 924 which is in full working order but have never driven it on the road, just sits in the garage and now the mot has run out. This is more to do with the curse word weather we’ve had recently more than anything else. It will be mot’d in the week and I will then put it up for sale but drive it about a bit until it goes.
I bought a w123 Merc in February which was local and knew it was in a curse word state. It won’t start but I have cleaned it and also had the interior valeted as the car had previously been sitting for years I really do want to get it on the road but again the weather and also me being busy at work have meant I haven’t really done much.
I have recently treated myself to a couple of nice moderns and swore myself off retros for a while but this hasn’t actually worked!
But because of having those my focus is less on the retros. I just like having them sitting about!

I just like having them sitting about! You see, that's me right there. Have the modern box on wheels to hopefully not give you any strife, but have the RRs in the background for some eye candy. Cars without MOTs are a lot less hassle. I used to dread the MOT test day drawing nigh!
