A rare BMW E30 325i Motorsport Edition, huge history file and 47,836 miles.
MODEL HISTORY
The legendary BMW E30 325i needs little introduction having dominated the prestige saloon car market throughout the 1980’s and early 90’s. The incredibly rare 325i Motorsport Edition, built in a limited number of just 590 cars over four batches, this model remains amongst the most sought after of modern classic BMW’s. Early cars were fitted with M Technic 1 body styling and M Technic 1 interior pieces, and BMW specified the interior trim in accordance with paint colour chosen. Unique to the Motorsport Edition were special paint colours and trim, whilst the sports suspension from the 325i Sport was used and limited slip differential (LSD) was offered as an option. This Nogaro Silver example was one of just 250 cars produced in 1989.
EQUIPMENT
Monocoque construction, torsionally rigid safety cell, two-door four-seat convertible body, electric operating soft top, front and rear crumple zones, all-round body reinforcement, M Technic 1 body kit, M Technic sports suspension, twin halogen circular headlights, integral front air dam, central locking with deadlock, M Technic 1 sports steering wheel, check control system, computer, electric windows all round, electrically adjustable door mirrors, rechargeable glove box torch. Factory options; Electronic Hydraulic (EH) automatic transmission.
EXTERIOR
This outstanding 325i Motorport Edition is finished in stunning Nogarosilber, (Nogaro Silver, Code 308). The paintwork boasts a spectacular deep gloss shine and high polished finish, and the original panels are beautifully straight with uniform shut lines. Structurally perfect thanks to fastidious attention to the paintwork in order to make this a regular show machine at BMW Club events, this example is truly exceptional. Unique styling features denote an early Motorsport Edition including M Technic 1 package, with the smaller metal bumpers with factory colour coding and dechroming. Supplying BMW Main Dealer number plates and tax disc holder remain fitted, along with a BMW Car Club Great Britain sticker in the windscreen. The black UV resistant hood is in amazing condition with no fading and a clear, undamaged plastic screen. One tiny nick to the seam edge of the soft top is visible but utterly insignificant.
INTERIOR
The unique Motorsport Edition BMW sports front seats are trimmed in Grey Leather with the M Tech coloured stripes stitched into the corners, correct for the second batch of Nogaro Silver cars. Furthermore, this special edition car received factory fitted leather door cards, leather stitched centre console and leather covered ashtray lid. The sporty M Technic 1 steering wheel is in excellent order with the discreet M Tech stripes hinting towards the performance capability. The interior is in superb condition with the hide soft and supple, having been subject to a deep cleanse and leather feed by Furniture Clinic in Birmingham. All functions and controls operate including the computer, check control panel and inspection display. The electric hood is seamless in operation. A period Motorola 4800X car phone remains fitted but is now disconnected. An interior to simply delight the 1980’s smart set!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Displacing 2494cc, the legendary straight six cylinder unit from BMW needs little introduction. 171bhp and 226Nm of torque in a relatively lightweight car raise this car firmly into performance car territory, and 0-62 and top speed figures of 10.3 seconds and 128mph respectively are quoted. A spotless, unmolested engine bay displays factory plates and stickers. The unmistakable crisp engine note is retained through the near impossible to source genuine OE replacement exhaust system, sourced by BMW Classic in London. The factory optional Electronic Hydraulic (EH) automatic transmission with sport, economy and manual modes performs faultlessly and offers positive kick down, exactly as it should.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five 15" BBS wheels with cross spokes and a silver rim are in pristine order with matching BMW hex centre caps. Quality Bridgestone Potenza 205/55 R15 tyres are fitted all round including the spare which sits in the spotless boot area alongside the first aid kit, warning triangle and complete toolkit. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) incorporating all round discs offers ample stopping power to this performance contender.
HISTORY FILE
A truly incredible history file sets this example apart from the usual offerings and firmly cements the fastidious ownership this car has enjoyed. Supplied new by BMW main agents Prophets Garage Ltd of Solihull on 11th August 1989, this example has covered just 47,836 miles. The original sales invoice confirms that this example was purchased by first private owner, a Mrs Carole Knight, as a dealership demonstrator at a considerable cost of £27,000 less £16,000 for her 1987 325i Convertible in part exchange. The history file is simply enormous, chronologically filed and beautifully presented, whereby perusal of such would take many hours. There are countless invoices from new and throughout, including many from the supplying Main Dealer, Prophets, as well as independent specialists. Welcome letters to Mrs Knight from BMW Customer Service as well as vehicle history records covering the three subsequent traceable owners are included alongside literature from the BMW Car Club Great Britain, to whom the car is known and featured in Straight Six Magazine. Furthermore, the full book pack includes all handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as the original service book containing 14 stamped entries. There are five documented cambelt changes and every single MOT certificate from the first in 1992 to present has been kept! This amazing limited numbers Motorport Edition represents a rare surviving unmolested example with a history file second to none.
