Completely missed this thread of Your great camper van. Must be decades I saw a L300 the last time in nature! There are some on this site that look pretty cool. The ones with the white trim would work well. Yes, they suit beige (or orange) cars very well. I´ve been thinking of a set for my orange breadvan polo once, too. Only thing which kept me from buying a set: they are plastic with only a few clamps on the back. And too expensive to replace the occasional lost one.

Looking good, just a word of warning re the pool ball, check it isn't that heavy it's causing undue wear in the linkages, the ones I had driven were vague enough until you got used to then with just normal wear and tear and that was 20+ years ago!

It's got the middle cored out nearly all the way through so wasn't to bad weight wise, gear change is quite good now that i have made up a couple of replacement rubber bushes/mounts where the linkage pivots underneath, has made a massive improvement.

Just ordered a set of these. Should tidy it up for now. found them a bit cheaper on eBay. Just have to hope they fit now. They claim they fit all 14" steels

Only thing which kept me from buying a set: they are plastic with only a few clamps on the back. And too expensive to replace the occasional lost one. Just fitted these they are a really snug fit with an adjustable metal ring keeping tension on the tabs. Had to lever them on with a large flat head and they take a fair amount of effort to pop them back off.

Really nice pal how do they attach to the steels I've got a mk2 transit campervan that they could look good on Cheers Josh They have big plastic tabs on the back and a wire ring that can be set at different tensions to keep them in place. Really tight fit on my steels.

I was wrong. The price I´ve seen them for was 99€uros, about 85 pounds. The seller is autovintageltd. Found boltonbits, too, they also offer this version: Unfortunately they don´t offer shipping to germany.

Started the fun job of mopping it over between the rain today. Got most of the back end done, looks a different colour to the front. The paint goes really white and chalky between polishing.

Got it all polished up ready for the summer and the starter has started being a bit temperamental. Found a guy on eBay that sells refurbished units so will get that sorted before I end up stuck somewhere.

Great van, I always have a look at your updates. I really like the retro style of the changes you've made and the new wheel trims look awesome!
Just a thought on your starting issue, it might be worth adding a relay to the starting circuit if it doesn't already have one. A common issue I've found on 80's Japanese vehicles is that, as they get older, the starter circuit develops quite a bit of volt drop, especially across the start contacts inside the ignition switch. As it's summer there at the moment, the problem may be worse during warm/hot weather. The relay will take nearly all the current load off of the ageing ignition switch contacts, which is probably as much as 15-20amps as the starter solenoid kicks in.

Thanks for the input I'll look into that. It's been really good electrics wise since I replaced the starter and alternator cables and fitted strip fuses where the fuseable links used to be. The starter sounds like it's been sticking a little more than anything. Still turns it over well when it goes but sometimes sounds like it stays engaged for too long and other times seems to stick off for a couple of seconds before it engages. For the sake of £65 i think I will change it over and see if it makes a difference.
