Looks nice, but take a look at those wheelarches, and does the description say the sunroof is a problem? (Is that what S/R stands for?) Otherwise it has potential I think, if you want it go for it!

Ah, I see! ;D Stolen and Recovered! ;D Other than that front arch, which I suppose could be superficial, and the obvious rear end damage, it does look alright mind you. Not really the sort of thing I'm interested in but could be a great car with a little work.

gonna go and have a peek at the white one tomorrow... it's only at the end of my road anyway, literally 3 minutes walk so i might as well. it's got all keys and documents so hopefully being stolen/recovered won't be an issue, and at the end of the day it'll only owe me a few hunrdred so who cares if i don't make a profit when i move it on? so bearing that in mind.... tentatively for sale, 1991 Polo G40 - new full blend charger 2 months ago - brand new s/steel exhaust/downpipe/decat, mp3/cd player, original interior in good nick, original exterior with only a couple of rust scabs, new tyres, clear lenses, mot till august tax till feb we'll see how the audi looks tomorow eh?

ooh replying to my own reply, what very bad form right just been to see it on the way back from the school run. They just gave me rough directions to it so i went and scrambled over a few motors (including all the shiny stuff in the lockup... alfas, beemers, an R32!!) and had a poke around. Luckily with it being stolen/recovered some kind soul had butchered the ignition barrel so it started on my house key so i've been able to hear it run. Plus points That 5-pot noise! It was a bit tappity but it's been sat there three weeks. Interior is mint, no smashed glass so no wet seats. All electrics, gauges and stuff work Bodywork isn't bad, but.... minus points that photo does the wheelarch justice, it'd need a new wing cos it's rusted through a section about 1" by 3". even i wouldn't filler that the boot is full of water from an unknown source - the rear damage is lights and bumper only, panels aren't damaged so it's not from there. that tappy noise - would it go away or would it turn into a tappy problem and then a tappy new engine? but yeah, definately made me want a 5 cylinder audi even if not that one.... now where was that ebay link?

Dude...
My old 20v Quattro(s) that I had were PROPER good fun.... BUT you'll be looking at SERIOUS fuel bills... (I was lucky to get 250 miles out of a 70 Litre Fuel tank....)
And IMHO, they're not THAT quick.... (my 16v Mk2 was as quick if not quicker)

I've got one of them, but the ECU (it's KE III Jet) is giving me curse word at the moment, I'll probably just convert it to K jet though. Not as quick as you'd think, but fantastic fun in the wet and snow Very torquey, great to tow with, but not rapid at all, hence my MK II 16v golf.

dude... you think i get any better from the G40? It's some crazy problem where the right hand pedal jams down whenever there's a fast car alongside, and the fuel gauge then moves faster than the speedo put a tenner in last week, only used it for work, had to put another tenner in today and the trip shows 54 miles. that's 54 miles on 12 litres, aka 2.7 gallons. that's 20mpg, and i didn't drive it hard! wasn't after it for some crazy big missle of a car, fancy something a bit relaxed but with a turn of speed if i want it. i love the G40 to bits but it's exhausting driving it!

I'm talking less than 20mpg driving VERY conservatively..... When I had my 4 door, I drove it anyhow for a week, and got 9mpg....
They are nice to drive, and reasonably effortless, although I found that at real speed, they are a little high revving..... (but still reasonably quiet)
They're not cheap to repair though.... make sure you check th e quattro out.....
TORSEN diff I can imagine being costly.... and the rear diff on my coupe was a bit leaky....
But for the money that ones at.... it's gotta be worth a flyer if you can cope with the lack of economy (which it sounds like you're used to)
Some other cars worth looking for that may suit your current 'penchent'
E30 325i (I had an SE, and it was lovely, quick, comfy and cruised well) '35i' Passat GT (some are 16v too! there are a few although reasonably rare with VR6 in too) (1988-92 shape)

The 20V engine doesn't really work well below 4,000 rpm. It's basically the same head design as the early Golf 16V. The more common 10 valve motor pulls a lot better at lower revs, but it doesn't rev to 7,000 like the 20V.
Tappet sound - these engines have hydraulic tappets which can be a bit slow to pump up, especially if the car has been standing (again, the same as an old VW). Worst case is that you have to replace the tappets - not too difficult a job, but there are 20 of them, so £££.
Water filled boot - usual cause is water getting in via the seals around the tail light units. Remove light units and refit using lots of silicone sealant.

S'one of the reasons I had to chop my coupe in.....
