Mk1 Mazda MX-5 Convertible
Actually a Eunos import. 1993, reg K28 VCC. 1.6 manual. Silver, with black hood and black cloth interior.
I’ve owned this since December 2011. I originally bought it just for a one-off father & son road trip to Italy, which it did with no issues but I fell in love with it and kept it. I’ve since driven it twice to Spain and through 10 European countries on a mega road trip, all without any issues, and as well as that it’s been a super reliable daily runabout and all-year round fun car for the family.
I’ve just bought a newer MX5 for the next road trip and been offered £600 part ex for this car. What’s sad is that the car salesman said it will probably go for scrap! That hurts me, so I’m offering it on here for the part ex price first. I won’t take offers because the value has already been set by the part ex deal so if it doesn’t sell on here I’ll just take it to the garage when I collect the other car.
If you want this you need to be quick. I mean really quick. Ideally I need it gone by TOMORROW - SUNDAY 18th MARCH 2018. Happy to show you around the car and give test drives and talk lots about it. For the reason given above I won’t haggle about the price though unless you want to haggle it upwards! Must be a decent buy for someone? Please don't hassle me with dumb offers.
The car isn't perfect and needs some TLC but it's got lots of life left in it and should be saved.
I’m located in Abergele on the North Wales coast, a few minutes off the A55. Phone or text Russ on 07922 109082.
THE GOOD BITS:
V5 present and in my name.
Good interior, with no rips or tears. Removable lightweight wind breaker fitted behind the seats. Overmats.
LED lighting inside.
I fitted new door tweeters and headrest speakers just after I bought it.
Brand new battery a few months ago. Properly vented to the outside world like they should be.
All four tyres are top quality Goodyear and nearly new, only done a few thousand miles.
Gloss black original Mazda daisy alloys with centre caps.
Space saver spare wheel with jack and brace present.
Lightweight stereo head unit (radio/memory stick - no CDs).
The ashtray isn’t cracked :-)
About 92k miles (odometer in km).
MOT to 25 May 2018.
Cat 2 immobiliser with installation certificate.
Upgraded aluminium high capacity radiator fitted by the previous owner.
Recent-ish cam cover gasket and oil service.
Brake pads and disks replaced all round. Can’t remember when exactly but all in great condition.
Starts, runs and drives fine. I took it for a 140 mile run today.
Look up the MOT history online, it’s great. It got its first advisory in my ownership last year because I left the European beam deflectors on the headlights. Duh!
Lots of paperwork, receipts, old MOTs etc. Receipts from the previous owner for Redline oils in the diff and transmission and POR15 paint for the underside.
Comes with four spare JDM Minilites with legal tyres. I have a few other spares in my garage that can go with it too but can’t remember what exactly. Bits of trim I think. I may have a tonneau cover as well.
Glass rear window.
Wireless remote central locking.
Two sets of keys and remote key fobs.
Power steering
Aircon repaired and converted to modern gas and re-gassed. Works fine.
THE NOT SO GOOD BITS:
The paintwork is a bit tatty in a number of places. It’s been resprayed in the before I owned it and seems to have scratches under the lacquer.
The rear bumper paint has faded on top and I think the primer is showing through.
There are lots and lots of mysterious handprints on the doors and boot lid which detract the look of the car. Possibly from sun cream methinks? May polish out?
It’s an early MX5 so there is some rust. The rear of the driver’s side sill is going scabby and will need attention. The wheelarches themselves are sound though.
Small patch of bubbles under the paint on the nearside front wing but nothing major and doesn’t seem to be getting significantly worse as time goes by.
The hood has a small number of short splits and nicks but all have been repaired and patched from the inside. It’s not gorgeous but is perfectly usable.
There’s a water weep into the boot somewhere by the battery. Common fault with the NA MX5, but I haven’t been able to track this one down. Oddly, it seems to be intermittent and doesn't always happen even after lots of rain.
Pictures below, including the spare alloys that will go with the car. Bear in mind I've just driven through muddy lanes to Shropshire and back so there's some cack on the bodywork and alloys from that adventure. It was starting to snow when I took the pictures so there may be white dots evident all over the place too.
