Hi all, I'm back here after a few years of no old cars.
I searched for info on the NOVA declaration but not really finding the answer - basically it's a French registered car brought to the UK last year and sold to me by a UK classic car vendor. I have the french documents with the French previous owner's details, the Carte Gris, and the transfer document with the details of the UK guy as the new owner.
I think the guy I bought it from should have declared the NOVA many months ago but he didn't so I have to do it. I have started but the question (finally haha) is: who's details do I fill in to the 'Supplier details' part of the NOVA?
I think the UK seller should have entered the previous French owner details. I wonder if I should enter the French owner's details or the UK seller.
He has supplied all the docs but hasn't supplied an invoice for the sale (he was meant to)
Also, the car was for sale in Essex, I live in Glasgow and the car has been transported to my friend's workshop in Kent to get initial work for MOT. My friend has scanned all the French docs and sent them to me - that's ideal but didn't get the darn invoice.
Anyone have an idea what I put in the 'supplier details' bit of the NOVA? it won't let me go further without it.

I'm no expert on this but a friend has just gone through the same thing He bought a car in Poland with little in the way of paperwork But as it was from a eu country it was pretty straight forward
If no one else responds il see what I can find out for you

It's not so much how to do this it's just what seller details to put in the supplier section.
If I enter the previous French owner from 2016 it might not tie in with some database somewhere.
If I enter the chap in Essex then the inland revenue might fine him for not doing the nova last year. That's kind of the query to clarify

hiya, yes I think so but he brought the car here over a year ago and I think he should have declared it then. I've not imported a car before and I'm just concerned about fines etc.
£5 a day for every late day apparently.
The NOVA looks like it's set up more for new car imports so a lot of things like 'confirmation of conformity ' don't apply to retros

cheers, think I will- the country you have to select is everywhere but the UK so that lead me to think it was the French guy that is to be mentioned as supplier. Will see!

That's kind of the query to clarify This might help: www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-ukThe first bit: How to import a vehicle You must complete certain steps as soon as you bring a vehicle into the UK permanently.
You can pay an importer or shipping company to do them for you.
Tell HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) within 14 days that the vehicle has arrived in the UK.So, the Classic Car Vendor should have NOVA'd it already and as a professional should know their obligation. If there's a fine floating around waiting to land on someone it should be them, not you. Especially since you didn't import the car, they did. As above check with HMRC but don't take the hit for someone else not doing their job.

Cheers for the reply - it was more a question of who goes on the 'supplier' section. Thankfully I've now passed this step and have their confirmation that i can apply for the reg document. I opted to put in my details and state that of just brought the car in.
I think the burocracy only really kicks in if its a 'declared new ' import where every possible detail has to be provided including what you paid for tax reasons. You have to have a mph speedometer and provide all weights and measures for compliance. Must have proven delivery miles and invoice etc. None of this is needed for a retro.
Still need to get reg documents so that'll take a few weeks.
