Or should I say MORE 205 starting woes?!
My 205 diesel hasn’t been truly ‘right’ for a few months now (big service incoming!) but at this moment in time it’s having none of it!
Keys in ignition and twist and we have all the dash lights as per usual, twist further to start and nothing at all! Just a dimming if the lights and a weird clicking/fizzing/ticking sound from behind the dashboard!
I don’t know exactly what’s going on but there is so little on this car I am hoping it will be something simple?!
Please help if you can... Many thanks.

Try running an additional Earth from the Battery to the engine block using a jump cable or similar. I had a similar sounding issue on an old VW due to a faulty main earth.

How is your starter motor power wire attached to the starter motor? I've seen people put spring washers in place here which is a massive no-no! That much current through a tiny bit of surface area is asking for trouble!
As said another area to try is the engine earth. A quick win to elimate the engine earth is to put a jump lead from the engine (lifting hook, head bolt etc.) to the negative battery terminal. If it doesn't improve the Earth strap is not the problem.
If the buzzing sound is definitely behind the dashboard that sounds more like a wiring fault!

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I shall give them a try and see what happens...
Prior to it failing to play I was really churning the thing to get it started (as per one of my earlier posts!) so I think that I have inadvertently done something to the old brute! I only think this as the last time I was trying to coax it into life it just failed on me...
I just wish it was something I could fix in a thrice!!!
Old motors eh...?!?!?!

Sounds like your getting air in your fuel somewhere and have killed the starter churning it over to get it going.

There was a lot of churning over the last few months so I think that that, coupled with the previous problems I have had have conspired to cause me some grief!
I am going to get a second hand starter motor from eCon and fit that to see what difference it makes...
After that it will have to be a thorough service and inspection of the fuel system.
This used to be a car that would start with the swiftest flick of the key!!!

My 205 (1.4 TU) ate a few starter, have you tried rocking the car in gear to see if it free's the starter up or bumping it to make sure the car will actually run?

Or even the hit the starter solenoid with a block of wood and a hammer trick just in case that's stuck (cured a friends daughters 2007 plate Laguna that 'definitely needed a new starter' according to the local plug and play 'mechanic' last week...)

One oddity I have just noticed is this...
I said all the dashboard lights come on but I’ve just realised the glow plug light is not illuminating?!
Ruddy thing...

That might explain the lots of churning...

hard to diagnose, take a vid. could be a relay buzzing , poss bad earth (not main engine earth) corroded multiplug pin somewhere etc.

It's a really frustrating problem as it does seem nigh on impossible to diagnose...!!!
It happened when I was trying to start the car... It was churning away then it went dead and dead it has stayed...

It was churning away then it went dead and dead it has stayed... Has the starter motor decided it's had enough, that's assuming the battery wasn't just getting flattened. Our old diesel AX got more difficult to start. I did the normal things like do a service and fit new glow plugs. I then fitted a manual glow plug relay operated off a switch and a choke cable to the cold start enrichment on the pump. This helped but it eventually got so bad it would only start in the cold with a ca of petrol in the intake. As it turned out the problem was due to low compression, not as bad as it sounds though because it was just the valve clearances that had closed up. Tis meant the valves were always open slightly when it was cold. I sorted that out and it was back to starting first time again.

I just wonder if something could have blown/broken whilst trying to churn the car into action...?!
I doubt I was doing it any favours...!!!

So here is what I have tried so far...
1) Rocking the car in gear and starting in gear = absolutely nothing!
2) Tried to jump start the car and the glow plug light came on (wasn't doing this before) so gave it a go and it tried it's best to start but was too feeble, it just wouldn't fire!
3) I put the battery on charge and the machine said it was 'fully charged and maintaining'. Re-connected the battery and absolutely nothing, still not happening!
I assume the battery is completely dead...?!
I can't think of anything else and going by what was occurring in point 2 (a bit of life when being jumped) there is life in there just no power to coax it into being...!!!

One conclusive way to test the battery is to get a capacitance tester. The Foxwell BT-100 is one such item for not alot of cash.
However, it does sound like the battery is goosed in your scenario.
