Hi all!
As above - I have an interested party in a vehicle of mine - who (based on the videos and pictures I've sent) is willing to buy the car without physically seeing it - he was going to fly down and take a look but I think he's happy with what I've sent him showing the various faults/bits etc- wants to get it via a transporter and arrange that part himself. Fine - seems like a very genuine guy and I have no issues.
He's obviously dealing with the registering part on his end so on and so fourth.
Now - my main question is what's the best way to get the money safely from him to me? I assume a PayPal Gift (as I don't want any recourse - sold as seen - no 'chargebacks' etc - also no fees on this and it's instant) - but is there a better way? From what I can see there are things like Western Union (expensive), Cheque (long winded - ages to clear and would delay things) or Bank Transfer (not sure if possible from IE to UK? Do we have to be with the same bank?)
The amount would be around the £1k mark so it's not a small amount of money to mess about with.
Any suggestions or experiences welcome.
Many thanks!

Hmm there is an age old scam doing exactly this. Money appears in the account, car is collected, money then bounces back or is sent from an unauthorised source.
Could he not send cash via the transporter and get one to come from near where he is? I've sold a Mini to Ireland and did it that way.
Bank transfer should be ok though if it is genuine, maybe get it paid into a new account and withdraw it before the car goes?

Isn't there a time limit on a bank transfer to clear? While Faster Payments are as good as gold; that of course applies for domestic transactions only. www.fasterpayments.org.uk/faqsCash can be forged too y'no . In this instance I'd give the payment a few days from the moment you see it in the account: www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/making-phone-or-online-transfersWhen we used to sell trucks at a previous place it's how we used to do it. We used BACS as our process due to how Accounts Payable worked at our place.

I’m in Ireland. I tend to use paypal or if i really want it, come get it. Been back to the uk a few times to get cars I’ve really wanted. I always pay cash on taking the car away. Tax is the only issue since the tax disc has disappeared

Bank transfer should be ok though if it is genuine, maybe get it paid into a new account and withdraw it before the car goes? I was wary of that but he seems like a hugely genuine chap - classic car owner and restoring some in his spare time, spoken to him, exchanged many videos and pictures he requested as he wanted to make sure it was right - no reason to not believe him! Isn't there a time limit on a bank transfer to clear? Cheers - I spoke to my bank today and they said as soon as it appears in my account it's cleared but I'll be ringing them to double check when it happens before I let the motor go. There is a 2 day period between payment and pickup anyhow. I’m in Ireland. I tend to use paypal or if i really want it, come get it. Been back to the uk a few times to get cars I’ve really wanted. I always pay cash on taking the car away. Tax is the only issue since the tax disc has disappeared Was gonna use Paypal but I thought BT might be easier as it's straight into my account. Have gone for Bank Transfer as I have no reason to disbelieve the chap as I said above - he can do an Urgent transfer which should clear same day if it's done by 14:00. I'll be checking with my bank that all is well before handing over the car to the transport bloke. Gonna fill out the V5 tonight - am I right I fill out the export section? He is in County Wicklow in the Republic of Ireland. I'm sure I can figure it out but anyone who's done this before would be useful just in case I have a case of word blindness! Thanks for all the help everyone!

You just hand over the V5, that’s usually the biggest issue people have. Bought a MK4 Golf GTI from a dealer in Leeds and he nearly curse word himself when I said I needed the logbook. A call to my local vehicle registration office was the only thing that sorted that. They’ll take the V5 and give him a new Irish one. Bank transfer fine too, mate bought a 2014 Octavia vRS recently and the chap picked him up in Birmingham airport, they went for breakfast while the transfer was clearing and he was on his merry way and home 12 hour later. that was 14,000 quid too!
