Beautiful 1979 Spitfire 1500
Beautiful 1979 Spitfire 1500 in Porsche metallic grey, with 1970s slot-mag alloys, cast aluminium rocker cover and a fantastic twin stainless steel exhaust system that sounds awesome.
Offers invited, part exchanges considered - especially something old, interesting, loud and fast.
This Spitfire has poly-bushes at the rear and an electronic ignition, working overdrive and has been updated with modern fuses and electric thermostat controlled fan. The tyres are new Goodyear Duragrips. The previous owner fitted a new battery and had big-end bearings done.
In my ownership I’ve had it fully serviced, had a new dizzy and leads, all fluids changed and the carbs stripped and tuned. Additionally I have sourced and had fitted an original 1970s roll-over bar for added safety. I also had some weak spots underneath professionally welded up and undersealed which all resulted in an easy pass on its last MOT, which expires in December.
The dashboard is custom built wood and the seats are newer MX5 “tombstones” that slide back and forth and have speakers wired into the headrests, connected to a decent stereo fitted into the passenger footwell... (although I prefer the soundtrack that the car provides itself).
The hood is in excellent condition and was recently replaced. This Spitfire also benefits from a GT6 fibreglass bonnet (with the lovely bulge in it) and fibreglass rear panels and quarter valences... which entirely removes any worry about rotting arches and panels.
It comes with plenty of useful spare parts; front and rear bumpers, seat-belt units, oil, filters, leads, a full sized spare wheel and a few bottles of lead replacement for correct fuelling.
This car lives safely tucked-up in a heated garage and it’s just a toy. I’m in no rush whatsoever to sell. I will take offers and I’m also interested in part-exchanges, particularly anything fast, interesting, old, unusual or (at this point in time) a solid 4x4 with plenty of load space?
The ONLY reason for sale is that this car is too cramped for me to drive any real distance. So despite buying it, loving it, and zooming around in it, it’s not getting used enough and that’s just a waste, so I’m hunting for an old R129 Mercedes or another TVR instead now, or something similar and fun.
More images available on request. Any questions or inspections welcome. I am located in Bideford, North Devon, which is 45 mins West of Junction 27 on the M5.
