A UK Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 2+2 FHC with a warranted 15,715 miles from new.
EQUIPMENT
Full width wrap-round bumpers, sealed beam asymmetric headlights, side reflectors, twin reversing lights, collapsible steering column, revolution counter, battery condition indicator, water and oil pressure gauge, fuel light, electronic clock, rocker switches, map reading light, cigar lighter with luminous socket, recessed choke and heater controls, recessed disc shape ventilation direction controls, padded screen rail, lockable glove compartment, interior boot release. Factory Options: Power assisted steering, Borg Warner automatic transmission, heated rear window, chrome pressed wheels.
EXTERIOR
Costing more than the Open Two-Seater and Fixed Head Coupe, the 2+2 model was Jaguars flagship E-Type model and only 1041 Series 2 RHD examples were produced. Finished in opulent Regency Red this car looks striking at any angle. Purists will be astounded by the originality of this cherished vehicle and soon forgive the minor blemishes and dings all revealing an honest factory built example rather than a stripped restored ‘as new’ car. A letter in the history file from the first owner until 2012 confirms garage storage from new and even explains a small imperfection to the bonnet thanks to a mechanic leaving a spanner on the engine! The chrome enhancements, slightly tarnished, still sparkle despite never having been re-chromed and all badges, glass and Lucas headlamps are factory fitted. The ‘Guaranteed Underbody Protection Sticker’ and ‘Triplex Electrically Heated’ stickers as attached from new and are still present on the front and rear screens. Incredibly rare, unique and virtually unrepeatable.
INTERIOR
Manufactured on the 3rd June 1970 this incredible E-Type Jaguar still has factory fitted interior. Fully upholstered in finest quality Black Vaumol leather over deep Dunlopillo cushions only found on grand marques, it offers a unique combination of patina, aroma and natural grain. Unbelievably the headrests have never had the protective clear wrapping removed and there is a small mark to the centre console. The deep pile carpeting can be lifted to reveal original thick underlay and pristine metal floors. All Smiths gauges, smooth contour rocker type switches operate correctly and the 160mph speedometer reminds the driver of the sporting credentials. The three-spoke lightweight alloy steering wheel with wood rim proudly displaying the growler badge is divine. A real automotive indulgence.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The desirable six cylinder 4.2 litre XK engine with twin overhead camshafts and three S.U carburetters produces 265bhp and performs impeccably with silky smooth power delivery thanks to the very low mileage credentials and expert maintenance. Labels and stickers attached from new are still visible on components. Only available on the flagship 2+2 FHC is the optional automatic Borg Warmer Model 8 with dual drive range D1/D2 and it performs faultlessly. A beautifully matched engine/gearbox combination with the added delight of factory optional power steering gives real world relaxing driving pleasure.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Optional special chromium plated pressed steel wheels cost an extra £31. 6 shillings and 8 pence as per the original sales invoice and present immaculately with a mirror shine and no damage. Matching Avon 185 HR15 tyres are fitted with ample tread. Servo assisted disc brakes all round with independent hydraulic circuits front and rear stop the car adequately.
HISTORY FILE
Truly remarkable and a collectors dream. The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate confirms this to be a matching numbers RHD UK example despatched on the 12th August 1970 to Lex Motor Co, Wembley. Purchased by Dr Irene Prosser with assistance from her father, a famous surgeon, on the 1st November 1970. The total price of the vehicle including factory options was £3,056 as clearly documented on the original purchase invoice. Owned and cherished by her for the next 42 years with minimal use due to a demanding successful career. Upon having her daily Jaguar serviced at Main Dealers, Clelands, she entered into conversation with the Dealer Principal and retired British Touring Car Championship, (BTCC), Driver, John Cleland, who made a point of thanking her for her repeat business and loyalty and to remind her he would like to purchase her very low mileage Jaguar E-Type! On this occasion his persistence paid off she agreed to sell the car for a large sum of money. Owned by Mr Cleland and his Jaguar Dealership for two years, but never registered to him, it was used for Jaguar shows and on display in his new car showroom. Sold to the second and only other registered keeper in 2014, Mr Jayesh Patel a serial car collector owning other iconic cars such as a Ferrari 348 GTB and Aston Martin V8, a photograph of him collecting the car from John Cleland himself at the Dealership is included in the history file along with the purchase invoice. Mr Patel has adored the car to the present day.
Absolutely all documentation from purchase is included within the Lex Group wallet including the original purchase invoice, price guide with the options ticked and handbooks. Service invoices throughout are present and a letter dated 23rd August 2014 from Dr Prosser to Mr Patel beautifully detailing the cars history is present along with two sets of keys.
MOT February 2019, HPI Clear.
