When we were clearing out my late grandfathers old sheds I came across an old 1978 Puch Maxi S moped, we believe it was given to him by my nans old hairdresser, anyway, now the better weather is approaching I'd like to get it roadworthy and get it on the road for the first time since 1983! Well after I do my CBT.
Before I start, I'd like to get the V5 for it so I can tax it etc, so what is the correct procedure for doing so?
It wasn't sold to me, all I've effectively done is find it, does this matter?

as i've found out recently the old saying 'possession is 9/10ths of the law' is true involving V5's. you apply, Doovla write to the last owner saying they've received an application and need to respond within 14 days, my first letter didn't have a form, 2nd one did, which asks do you still own vehicle etc..and to provide photo of chassis no etc... i wasn't in physical possesssion of van so couldn't, person who applied was but obviously wasn't about to let me have access, i did speak to someone who 'supposedly' was a middle man but then didn't answer after a couple of days conveniently long enough for the process to go through. result? 1 'lost' vehicle.
as it was your Grandfathers i wouldn't see any issue, just don't lose sight of it

I've heard of DVLA being a bit difficult with V5's recently for cars that are off the road/restoration projects etc, and they won't issue a V5 until the car is complete. A pile of parts won't qualify.
Not sure if that applies to bikes too?
