1991 - Toyota - MR2 (Mk2) - MoT failure (welding). Project or Track car - £200 - Basingstoke
I'm gutted to say that my beloved MR2 has finally hit the threshold of being too expensive to get through the MoT. However, someone with welding and/or paint skills could resurrect it and have a cracking car at the end of it.
Other details:
T-bar
Import.
180,000 miles (300,000kms)
2.0L Normally Aspirated (NA)
Petrol
Manual
Air conditioning
Steerable fog lights
Electric windows
Electrically retractable wing mirrors
Adjustable steering column.
Kenwood stereo with rear USB
I've owned since July 2006 and it had 3 owners prior to me. In that time it's been my daily drive and has never let me down. Always started first time and I've not owned a car that feels so pointy and like it's on rails! All electrics work. Small cut on driver seat, but all other interior in very good condition.
I've kept every receipt for work done on it since I've owned it. MoTed and serviced every year at a specialist in Andover (Millway). All MoTs kept since I've owned it, failures and passes.
It had 2 new rear tyres just before Christmas.
Currently SORN.
Ok so the bad stuff and reason for sale:
Mot failures:
Excessive corrosion within 30cm of body mountings, nearside rear and offside rear inner sills.
Excessive corrosion within 30cm of body mountings, nearside rear and offside rear inner wheel arches.
Front wheel bearing has excessive play, offside front
That's the first welding it's ever needed.
MoT advisories
Exhaust system corroded
Surface corrosion underneath
Oil leak (must be minor)
Paintwork started to go a couple of years ago. Spoiler is peeling badly, roof is peeling and bonnet has started to go, but the rest isn't bad, wings etc.
A few years ago I had a minor shunt and changed the front bumper as a result.
There's a slight rattle from the engine when driving. It's not constant and doesn't do it at idle. I thought it might be pinking, but it could be something as simple as a fan bearing. Unfortunately I'm not mechanically astute enough to diagnose :-(
The aircon leaks. I bought a brand new aircon condenser a couple of years ago and a refurbed compressor shortly after. It was regassed and worked again for a while, but think the gas has leaked out again somewhere.
I can't bring myself to take it to the scrappy so please someone take it on as a project or track day car! :-)
If you'd like any more photos or info, don't hesitate to ask.
