Hi all ive just replaced the diif on my car and the old one had a trigger wheel for the speedo pick up the new diff won't accommodate the trigger wheel so I need to relocate it and I was thinking of placing it in the propshaft but this will change its ratio via input speed

This is the wheel It has 48 teeth The final drive is 3.54:1 My calculations sergest it would need to have 13.7 ( let's call it 14) teeth over the same diameter to get the correct speedo reading Now I was thinking of removing some teeth from that wheel to achieve this You can see from the tip ex marks ive put on it what I had in mind IE "leave one tooth remove two teeth leave one tooth remove two teeth and so on" this will give me 16 teeth in total Now the question is will this work or will the teeth need to equal lengths

2 trains of though and it will depend on the electronics in the speedo head to be honest. You might need to make the teeth 3.5 times wider - or in other words, fill in the gap after the tooth being left (with weld?), then remove the next tooth so your mark/space (or tooth/air) ratio remains about the same.

In what respect will the new diff not accept that speedo ring? ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) As I'd be inclined to keep what you know works and reads right instead of (no offence intended here) lashing something together on the propshaft ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

You may also want it balanced if whipping round at prop speed.

I never thought about that something for me to look into

Ah, i see now. Presumed it was external to the casing. Could you mount the ring (or another one made up) on a driveahaft flange and mount a sensor like TVR or Vauxhall Omegas have?

It's a live axle I did think about fitting it at the wheel end like a ABS ring but it has disc brakes with handbrake shoes so I can get it in there

nothing much to add but that's a monster lump of metal just to act as a trigger wheel for the speed sensor!

looks like it mounts using the CROWNwheel bolts, the CROWNwheel still mounts with the same bolts so I can't imagine it being far off?
