It seems we have a healthy stock of cars once more, so that's good. I'm still going to be at RRG and will be in my emporer's robes for the BNMAC display, but today, taking stock of my car's general status right now and factoring in that I really need to put my focus properly on my paid work, I'm not going to be bringing my car. It's just thrown up too many issues very recently and as I tend to obsess I need to make certain that I obsess over my work (lots of it, and so little time to do it all) without sneaking out to 'do a little bit on my car' and losing days of vital time. So I have to remove the car and RRG from my thought-processes as there are really too many hours requied to fix all the various issues that would need to be fixed to get it to Goodwood. So, after some thought today.... I'm hoping I can park this next to Georgeb's fine jalopy... That's a shame that your car is not going and it will appear somewhat false if you are on the BNMAC display but car less - I have solution though - you can loan my gruntmobile for the day - its presentable and coming anyway has my tow vehicle (I shall be engaged elsewhere within the gathering but it's top secret for now) let me know and I will book it on to your stand if required - pic below (year 2000 - Range Rover p38 4.0 SE) If anything that should be under the georgeb moniker

That's a fine looking automovehicle Sir Grumpy, and a very very kind offer.
Sadly I don't think it is old enough to be allowed on the display. I think they've set the cut-off at somewhere in the 90's if I recall.
It's not quite all over yet for my old dog. I might have a bit of time in the final week before RRG to get it well enough to make it there. Possibly not back as well, but at least it might stand a chance of being there.
I already know what your top secret engagement is at the gathering by the way. You're going to be firing organic blancmange out of a clay pigeon trap and then charging around in a motorised sombrero trying to catch it with tongs. BNMAC has planted a mole in the planning team.

They would prefer pre 1995 but pre Y reg (2001) is the cut off - the gruntmobile is 2000 on a W - your mole has fallen for my trap (serves it right for burrowing in my lawn) your information is incorrect I was actually providing infield entertainment with my flock of 'Great lesser spotted rhubarb bucket runners' - now look what you made me do - the cat is well and truly out of the bag now

The BNMAC mole always gets the information eventually, even if its methods are unconventional.
Well in that case, I would be honoured to be the temporary custodian of the gruntmobile on the day if the pound dog won't play ball.
Thank you!

I shalt pm you a ticket number - if you can advise me of the club stand code in return I shall get it booked in on the display

Well in that case, I would be honoured to be the temporary custodian of the gruntmobile on the day if the pound dog won't play ball. We could do one of those Top Gear 'turn it into a boat, or hovercraft, or spaceship' events with it. I can bring a load of old pallets, six-inch nails and surplus paint. BNMAC members to your drawing boards so we can impress @grumpynorthener with our mad skillz when he comes back to collect it

Ahahahahah.
Sadly I've already given him the gold standard BNMAC assurance that I will be a responsible custodian and wont try and modify it with plastic add-ons.
So I will have to fight you all bravely to the death if you come armed with upgrade kits.

Sir Grumpy of the North, did you get my PM about the club code? I'm having difficulty PMing you and it doesn't appear to be in my list or PM archive.
Edit: I've resorted to emailing you directly. I've also decided to invite you to pitch for the job of restoring my classic car back to concourse, and have included my budget and deadline.
Naturally I am looking for the best work but on a shortlist of proven experts a keenly pitched costing estimate is always going to win the commission.
See what you can do. If we can get below £12 I think we might be able to shake hands on a fruitful working relationship.
I would expect a complimentary sunroof for that kind of money though.

Now sorted & booked in - has for the restoration work, time frame & budget - I am very confident that I can restore to multiple award winning standards the dust caps on the valve stems of your road wheels and within budget too - I dare say that they maybe some small change out the pittance £12 that you are offering - has for the complementary sunroof I am sure I can accommodate this too - I have some second hand cling film and half a roll of damp gaffa tape that should have this sorted for you but if you are not too keen on that idea I have the lower section of a very old rotten wood frame of a residential sash window that would look splendid - the glazing putty is falling out, the woodworm & dry rot is rife, one of the panes of glass is cracked and there is a bit of sellotape over the missing piece in the corner - I would have to charge extra for the gripfill & 6" nails used to fix it in place though - it would need a sandbag on each corner of the frame to hold it place for the next month or so whilst everything settles in - you might want to bring your own string in order to secure the sandbags in place otherwise I would have to also charge extra for that too - hope that this is all acceptable and I look forward to your full agreement.

I promise to keep it over 1:30 for the lap and under 147mph (because then I lose the front end). Here's a nice Chevy powered Lola T70 Spyder doing it in 1:18. The guy is obviously a talent as it's the Goodwood lap record and he only had 10 laps at Donington in it as previous experience.

Nice - this is what I was involved in 30 years ago - Chev 454 block / roller rocker cam / Holly 850 - worked to 7 + litres And yes those bumpers & nurf rails got used - times have moved on since then - the cars are still Chev powered but 600 bhp + nowdays

PistonmonkeysWelcome to the BNMAC thread. I gather you might be looking for a club to join? We are the Billy No Mates Automobile Club. There's only one rule in BNMAC: It's the club for people with no friends (ie no club to join). So if you want to join our club stand let me know.

Hello Pu72.
BNMAC is a car club with a display stand on Sunday. It's not an area to park... it's an area to display our club members cars along with all the other clubs showing their cars.
With regards to the 'pre-meet Saturday' part of the question... apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know but the event is on Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday's main focus being cars hooning around Goodwood motor circuit (plus some official themed car displays and lots of other good stuff going on), and Sunday being a day for static display of cars that people have entered for the day.

Not really car or club related (not even slightly related, at all) but my wife just gave me some instructions about preparing supper, which I typically didn't listen to... my first question following her speech proved I wasn't listening, but she attributed the fact I asked a question she had just previously provided the answer to mere seconds earlier to mental deterioration.
"Oh. My. God" she said "It's like living with a dementor!... I literally just told you that!"
"sorry, what? What was that first bit?"
"Well it is!"
"It iss what?"
"Like living with a dementor!"
"a dementor?"
"Yes! You can't remember anything!"
"Right. Erm... Do you mean its like living with dementia?"
"Eh?...... Oh..... Yes. What's a dementor then?"
"A ghoul from the Harry Potter books"
"what did I say?"
"that's what you said, a dementor"
"what did I mean?"
"Dementia"
"oh yes"
*makes supper*
