Apologies I think this has been answered before but...
Car's MOT runs out on 19:Feb but it's just failed on a front ball joint, can I still legally drive it until I get it repaired and re tested (hopefully within 10 days for the free retest)?
Garage has said I can't drive it. Will it show up as no MOT on the DVSA database?

if they let you remove it from their site, technically it can't be dangerous? MOT centres can refuse to release a dangerous car unless its to a transporter.

you can take it to/from a place of repair.
it will show up very quickly on the mot database as a fail or pass, I had an MOT a week ago, completed at 4.45 on a friday and was live on a detail checking app within the hour.

As above ,
Can be driven from the MoT station to your home address . If you take it to a garage for repair , it has to be booked in & them have the reg number recorded . Once repaired can be driven home or to an MoT station for a re test , again , it has to be pre booked with them having your reg number .

An MOT fail doesn't invalidate the remaining part of the existing test, unless the garage has said that what they failed it on makes it dangerous to drive, then you can't drive it. It's hard to tell what "failed on a front ball joint" means - damage to the boot could fail it, as could barely holding together and likely to fall apart if you hit a pothole. If you have a problem or collision that involves the condition of your car, obviously you may have a problem. But unroadworthy fails aside, if you have remaining "ticket" on the old certificate, you can still drive it around. There was a time when the DVLA web site said you could not, but they've corrected it now. I always try to take mine towards the start of the advance period to give myself time to sort out any fails.

NO garage as any legal right to stop you driving off their forecourt even if it fails on a dangerous item unless they are holding it because you haven't paid.

It will show on ANPR as still having a valid MOT but if you continue to use it knowing there is a fault this could invalidate your insurance.

As some people said the MOT is not a problem in your situation, having a failed one on the database doesnt invalidate the old one and you cant get nicked for having a failed MOT if you also have an older MOT still valid.
However, you can get nicked for driving a dangerous car, and in theory a policeman who stopped you for any reason could look at the database and find out that although it is MOT'ed, it had a worn component on a given day. If you then admitted that the worn part was still fitted you could in theory get nicked for the condition of the car. I think in reality its incredibly unlikely that you will get into any trouble over the balljoint.
Realistically I think the only way you would get nicked is if you have an accident where someone is hurt and the worn part of the car that you have already been told about was found to have caused the accident.
Of course if you fix it then you can drive without fear of getting nicked for MOT or balljoint right up to the day the original MOT runs out.

Thanks for the advice, it's staying at the garage so they can fix it as soon as they can. replacing a ball-joint on a 13 old Disco could be an hour or 4-5 :-(

I've always tried to apply common sense in this scenario. If it's marked as dangerous, or really obvious (bald tyres, broken lights, bits hanging off), or could cause an accident, I'd get it sorted straight away and wouldn't use it until it was fixed.
If it needed a bit of welding, or the emissions were a bit off, or the exhaust was blowing, I wouldn't worry about it. These days I think I have probably been a bit too lax about this. That said, I'm not aware of anyone who has been prosecuted for a wonky balljoint in the period after an MoT fail but before MoT expiry.
