Someone I know wants to buy this T2 link Trouble is I don't know much about t2's, especially converted vans which have been converted further. Also, the details are incorrect on DVLA. Says it's green and still has the old lump in it. The fella who wants it is not really a car guy so all this paperwork is already gonna cause a headache perhaps? Then, it's still shown as a van, does that mean it's got to be insured under commercial vehicle title, is a camper a commercial? Does he need to change that too? Then there's the conversion itself, a 2.5 Subaru... Do these eat head gaskets or is it like the k series thing? Then there's the quality of the work itself, I can do that bit but some tips for checking a T2's hidey holes that rot would be useful. So you see, there's a lot of questions for a lot of money. Personally I have no comment as I'm not a fan at all but if I'd spent the alleged 30 grand on it then I'd want it totally legit. Worth a look or walk away ( I know what I'd do) but each to their own. Cheers.

I think it's expensive. For the 15k starting price I'd want a full photographic record of the work done, a stack of receipts from reputable suppliers and a correct V5. There shouldn't be any problems with getting the V5 changed (colour and engine size/number are easy, van to motorhome just requires a bed, cooker and running water IIRC), but I'd expect the seller to do that first. When it describes uprated suspension, it could mean just lowered on better shocks or it could mean a full Red 9 wishbone conversion. Not enough detail to make a decision one way or the other, so I'd leave it unless you can get a local expert to go over it with a fine tooth comb.

T2s rust everywhere. Underneath, seams, gutters, front panels under windscreen are a few favourite areas. That one has had every seam smoothed over. There should be a seam in front of the rear air vent, running all the way down the bodywork. And one straight down from the rear edge of the cab doors. That alone suggests the 'restoration' could be just a poorly applied load of filler - I'd be being extremely careful if a friend wanted to buy it, and wouldn't buy it myself for that alone. Other things that suggest it may not have had the best restoration include the missing heater levers on the dashboard, the big ugly 'hole' that has been chewed into the dash for a radio, and the way the passenger door doesn't quite seem to fit. I'd also be put off the advert by the fact there are no pictures of the RHS or the engine bay. Being a converted panel van, the windows stick out from the sides of the van and look ugly. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but it'll always show up the fact it used to be a van. Treat that one with caution

He cannot even be bothered to write a decent advert , i would not bother , it speaks volumes .
I suspect he might be someone who gave it to someone to do and has no idea if the work is good or not .
And as above, i would want a detailed breakdown of the work done and all the photos if they exist , without i would not bother .
And if he cannot be bothered to do the legalities either - nope .
Plenty of other nice ones for sale , ok not with the subaru engine . I'm sure someone on here has advertised one in the last week that looked good.

Everything that they say above - I restored one of these last year for a client of mine and they rot in many, many hidden places - now it may well have had all those areas addressed professionally - but where is the evidence, images & documentation to back that up - the vendor is chancing it with this one - it looks fine on first appearances but I think that there is a lot of unknowns hidden under the shiny paint and fancy interior fit out - I'd more run than walk!

And there lays the difference: A known history, very well presented genuine camper with a fully documented restoration and a genuine owner / reason for sale

Its not as if people are stuck for choice with T2's , I'm betting there are 50 or so different ones for sale here in a month at least .

He has walked, it's a hot rod with sparse paperwork for just under legit money. Even I learned a few things here! He went to see the other one too.
