M111 is a good shout. A whole, rotten W202 can be had for about £5.20p. You could even use the standard management if you get a pre-97 car. After that they used CANBUS and it becomes a bit of a nightmare to swap things around (ask me how I know! ). If you were going aftermarket EFI then none of that would matter of course, and you could get a late post-facelift car. I'm sure there was a guy on RR years ago who did an M111 converted W115, based in Jordan or somewhere.

That’s real helpful information. The mega squirt was just a suggestion but from from I’ve been told here and by other guys, if the stromberg is set right then it would be as reliable. It would proberly make sense to rebuild the carb and then get it set right from a specialist.
Still keeping the options open though, tried finding the m111 converted w115 thread but had no luck, anyone got a link?

Best to use a w124 as the donor car, the wiring is much more swap happy in those.

M111 is a canted engine isn't it? In which case I don't think it will bolt to the original gearbox. The auto 722.6(?) is too large for the W115 transmission tunnel but the 5 speed manual from a W124/W202 would fit.

It wont bolt to the original gearbox no, but then if I was going to do it I would be ripping that out anyway. The manual box from the w124/202/201 does indeed fit, and I'm 99% sure the 4 speed auto that comes in the donor car (722.3/4) will go in to. One thing to remember is w202 gearboxes do not have a output for a cable drive speedo. If your not worried about cable drive speedo's you can even fit the later 6 speed.

Just to clarify where I'm coming from and sorry if I'm thread hijacking, someone's supposed to be fitting me an alternate engine as I didn't have time (baby daughter) or facilities to do the job myself. He knows his Mercs but has had other problems and had my car for nearly 3(!!!!) years now and I am on the verge of taking back and doing myself - hence the questions. Anyhow said person said 722.6 auto and 6 speed manual wouldn't fit without cutting transmission tunnel. I actually had a 6 speed manual from a E220CDi which he tried. In case that info is of use to anyone. Current plan, 5 speed manual from C202 on C220CDi. It's kind of in but turbo needs to be relocated, Turbo clashes. Sprinter manifold doesn't quite give a good relocation and I suspect there's an issue with starter to steering box. (I've a LHD with column shift.) Carat36amg, you clearly know your stuff, Do the M111s go in without any cutting (not counting engine strut things) and is that still the case with the supercharger? Just planning my engine options if I have to take my car back and do myself.

Just planning my engine options if I have to take my car back and do myself. The M111 goes in without cutting the shell, but I don't know how much room there is for the supercharger. My experience was with the m104 which is the same as the m111 just longer. The 6 speed box will fit but you cant use the merc linkage, custom only in this case. The om611 cdi is a good call, just use an adaptor on the existing manifold to re-position the turbo. If you've got the budget for it, use the kompressor engine (m111k) but fit a turbo instead of the supercharger. A decent tune on a aftermarket ecu will make more than enough power to keep you happy.
