Yeah, I heard that as well. Jolly funny. Do you think we'll get health warnings on motorbikes as well? or jumbo jets? trains? lorrys? Buses? or a host of other things that might be dangerous?
Bloody nanny state. Yes 4x4's are dangerous. We know that. Are they really any worse than anything else.

4x4s pump out more curse word due to poor MPG. Same as sports cars and super cars. 4x4s do get a bad image but there no more stupid to own then say a 200mph super car.

I heard recently that an express train full of passengers does less MPG per person than if they were all to get in their cars and drive to work! Think tank? Sherman tank more like! ;D

Still, at least they haven't blamed classic cars for all the worlds problems, well, those particular curse word haven't, they British Government themselves has. As for the safety aspect, I've said this before, it's unsafe to get out of the bed in the morning at all, you might fall down the stairs, drown in the bath, get mugged going to work, that doesn't mean we should all hide away and barricade ourselves in! And a lot of accidents involving 4x4s are caused by yuppie tossers who can't drive and happen to prefer such a car. If they want someone to blame, aren't Ferraris, Lamborghinis and the like far less useful, plus far less fuel efficient, than the 4x4s, lorries and buses they all love to hate? At the same time I think Hummers are useless, vulgar, excessive polluting curse word, but Land Rovers and such aren't the same thing. Still, can we have warning signs put on new Minis and new BMW 3 series? Ones that say... WARNING! THIS CAR MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE THE ANNOYING YUPPIE TOSSBAG THAT YOU ARE! ;D ;D ;D ;D

It was only a matter of time! Despite the fact that my car is more efficient than any Zafira or Picasso, and is probably cleaner to run than any bloody Lamborghini or Ferrari!

So, the green lobby has only just realised that 4x4's in the city are mostly for display purposes!
Wake up and smell the roses, OF COURSE THEY ARE! People will always find ways of showing other people how much more money they have to waste. In the bronze age people threw swords into rivers to prove they could afford too. Today people drive chuffing great tanks around London BECAUSE THEY CAN.
I love 4x4's (I used to have a lightweight landrover) but I do hate the damn things in the city and the over wadded twonks that drive them, especially the simpering mothers that bleat on about how safe they are for the kids while pulling out into traffic with their mobile phones glued to their ears booking the next personal training session.
My landy was a toy. It was totally rubbish on road so it rarely went on it, but since we lived in a tiny village i the cotswolds there were plenty of fields to play in.
I agree that the environmental issues are overplayed. Pollution by cars is a small percentage of the total, industry is far worse but since they pay such big bucks into Tony's re-election fund they certainly aren't going to be forced to improve, and don't get me started on the Americans.
I also love the fact that trains are less environmental than cars (that has been proved time and time again) but the greens NEVER mention it.
What is beyond dispute is that, forget new recyclable cars), the MOST environmentally friendly way to own a car is to keep it going, just like we do! So hats of to us, we are green AND we enjoy our cars!
...aaaand ...out!

Spot on there, 104zs!
They always "overlook" the fact that it wastes more energy ad creates more pollution in the process of building a car than the car will emit in it average 12-year lifespan. So really we are doing the world a favour by not buying new stuff!

That's true that, we don't require any new cars to be built to fuel our intrests, unlike collectors of flash supercar rubbish, who fall over themselves to buy up huge amounts of new Ferraris, Lambos etc that'll never be used, plus by not scrapping our cars we don't let as many old cars lie on street corners and in scrapyards polluting the ground. Still want to know why all those yuppies who live and work in cities need Range Rovers, or school run mums need X5s only to run 5 minutes down the road to school and back twice a day. I agree that if you actually use a car like that to go into difficult terrain or to drive in muddy fields etc, then that's Ok, but on well paved streets (although they're not that well paved around here, even still a normal car can just about manage them, bloody cheap council! ) But that's another story.
