Got a 1975 reliant kitten project. Its not far off ready for the road but wanting to lower the car change the 10 inch Wheels for bigger posibly 12s 13s and eventually a disc coversion rather than the drums. Any advice much apreciated seen a few threads but seem to have info missing or project never completed and details missing ect thanks. Karl

There used to be one doing the rounds with a rover V8 in, how silly do you want to get?

Wheel PCD is 4x4" (101.6mm) which is shared with Mini, Imp, Morris Minor, Austin A30/35/40 Farina, MG Midget, Morris Minor, Vauxhall Viva and pre'72 Victor. Oh, nearly forgot Jensen-Healey, those wheels would look the nuts.

The v8 one is currently on ebay as a project asking 6k. Tbh the standard engine will be left in for a while mabe with a few tweeks, Just want it a little lower for handleing purpuses with some nice wheels was thinking weller steels or something like jbw starmags although the ones abouve look nice and have that retro look. Will prob go down the bike engine route myself when i do swap engine but id want it sitting right and better brakes before that😂😂. Any advice apreciated thanks.

Personally the brake upgrade would be the first thing on my lost before lowering and wheels.

Personally the brake upgrade would be the first thing on my lost before lowering and wheels. You'd have to fit larger wheels to accommodate any brake upgrade first. That's unless you were going to fit something like Mini Cooper 10" disc brakes.

The first time I built my kitten I kept it on 10” wheels with homemade discs and mk3 Fiesta calipers with a v twin Suzuki 1000cc engine in the back , it was the most fun to drive having the tall tyre and low ride height just like a go kart . With the bigger 12 or 13” your unsprung weight goes up dramatically with the whole car only being a little over 540kg . Using heavier engines the bigger wheels make more sense

The brakes have been fully serviced and will be upgraded in due course as only running standard engine when it hits the road. Not a fan on the 10 inch wheels they just look too small but don't want to take on the 4x4 look 😂 so any advice for lowering is a big help heard ppl use after market front mini suspension and have the rear modified altho more detail would be a big help thanks in advance

Although suspension lowering always helps any way.

Starting with a 10” wheel your going up in size by 2” diameter to a 12 “ . Rear axle sits under the leaf so the only option is to move it on top of the springs which means re working the handbrake quadrants to make the handbrake work . The front shocks come apart to get the Spring out and remove a couple of coils to even out the 3” drop at the back .

I fancied one as a project. Personally, I would just go something like a 1.6-2.0 Toyota engine, with a trick axle, depending on what fits (BMW e30 seems good)
I'd also go 13's with a big brake kit front and rear, convert the hubs to something more modern, to keep wheel and brake choice less restricted.
Would go well, be economic (ish) and stop.
