1986 Wartburg 353. 1.0 two stroke, 3 cylinder engine. 86000 km (50k miles). Owned by a mechanic most of its life, who looked after it extremely well. Had new suspension bushes 2015, new brakes and copper brake pipes fitted 2016. Takes a 50:1 petrol/two stroke oil mix. Has 4-speed column change gearbox. Offers a real vintage driving experience and lovely sound from the two-stroke engine. Front wheel drive with front disc brakes and rear drums.
Just had new plugs, battery, elec fuel pump, new plugs leads and inline filter. Car driving very well with no rattles. Bodywork is superb for cars age and engine bay and underneath has been comprehensively rust proofed since new and is rock solid. Engine starts first turn. Has factory electronic ignition so no points to worry about.
Will top 80 MPH, happy to sit at 60 all day long.
These cars were made in East Germany from 1965 to 1988 and are very simple and reliable. The engine is a modified DKW 900 engine and has only seven moving parts (3 pistons, 3 con rods, and the crankcase), so very little to go wrong.
Great parts availability despite its rareness as these cars have a big European following. You'll get more interest in one of these at any car show than a Ferrari and be the only one there. All body panels simply bolt on.
