Spot on thank you very much for the replies. Think I'll go with a 6" reinforced slab then! Had a measure up tonight and the area is approx 15' square. Concrete calculator reckons that's around 3.5m2 with a bit spare. Any ideas what sort of money that amount of concrete would be from a ready mix wagon? Will do ground works at myself. Cheers It's around £72 + vat a cube around here. And £216 +vat if you want a pump. That's first hour on the pump.it would be done in an hour. If you work on these plus 10% Are you planning to power float the slab? Mines going in next week I'm literally about to start spreading the sub base now. (Morning brew before I start) Mines a little more complicated as mines about in floor scissor lift. As far as specifications on the slab look on the website of the manufacturer your going for.and check out there Info. Automotech lifts have there's on there. I thought 4 posts required less than 2 posts. My old 2 post was always fine in our old unit on a 150mm of concrete.

Don't forget, you will have to pay for the uncarried space on the lorry too. Most ready mix lorries carry 8m3 so you will have to pay a surcharge for the 4.5m3 uncarried weight. Usually around £35+vat per cube on top.

None of the 3 companies we use charge that.

I'll wager they do - they just don't tell you. Some include it in the price of the concrete. I can get Gen2 for as little as £48m3 around here but we have to pay the uncarried weight.

Has 'SmokeEm' states part load charges have always been common with ready mixed concrete suppliers and the ones that are not up front about the charge will be hiding it in their supplied per cubic metre charges - along with a disposal charge if you don't use the full order - in fact some companies refuse to take any surplus back to the plant - the alternative is to look for a mini mix supplier but these can only probably do 3 cubic metres in one delivery other than that the guys that will mix while you wait 'Mix Mate' seems to spring to mind but price wise I think you will find they are all in the same ball park area

Most will have trucks that mix it on site now anyway so the days of paying for part loads are gone..

Well the old floor is now gone! 3 big trailer loads lead away today and left with a big clay patch where it once was! Plans for reinforcing mesh and 150mm slab on top of whacked in sub base. Thanks for all the help!

when I put my 2 post lift in I built the floor up with 150mm type 1 MOT stone, sand blinding, 1200g dpc polythene, mesh with 600mm x 600mm x 600mm pits under each post base both with rebar and tied into the rest of the slab then 150mm of C35 readymix concrete finished with an easyfloat... obviously there are more stresses and loadings from a 2 post compared to a 4 post but you still need thickenings in the slab under each post. here's my build / floor... forum.retro-rides.org/thread/197207/another-garage-workshop-mancave-thread.

Thanks for all the help! How thick are you laying the sub base, best practice is to lay in 4 inch layers then whacker plate it,repeat until desired level required. Also consider getting a concrete poker vibrator when laying the concrete,it knocks the air out of the mix and makes it more dense when setting.

Got the mesh layed in today and hoping to get the concrete delivered on Saturday. Won't be using a dpc as there wasn't one originally and moisture was never an issue, also the other half of the barn doesn't have one either. WILL try to take pictures next time I get on it.

For what it takes and how little it costs I would do it - you will be surprised at what a difference it makes - and there is nothing worse than a damp floor and believe me if anything can find the damp and absorb it - it's a concrete floor - regardless of what it was like previously

Got the concrete in today. Managed to get the wagon backed right up to the access door which meant we didn't have to wheel barrow it in. 3m2 got dumped in th hole, then half an hour of frantic raking shovelling and tamping followed! Left it for a few hours then floated it off. It looks brilliant and should more than be up to the job. Ended up with a concrete mix with fibres in so it should be ok th strong, which will be reassuring once the ramp is bolted to it. Wee man putting his finishing touch on the job with grandad! So just need to let it cure for a few weeks before setting the ramp up and bolting it down. Anyone have any advice on what fixings to use? Current thoughts are the largest rawl bolts I can fit through the ramp legs? Any advice on setting up and levelling a 4 poster would be greatly appreciated!

Just as an update to this, ive got the lift installed and working now. ended I used 150mm m16 anchor bolts to hold it down. Shimmed and squared the posts so they where all plumb and square in relation to each other. Then used a laser level to tension the cables and get the bed level. I was struggling to find specific details relating to my lift so contacted tecalemit directly who where very helpful in sending me a complete assembly guide from there back catalogue which was a big surprise considering the lift is 40 years old!!!
