I might sound mad but, i'm trying to find something that will look right in our 1979 Triumph Spitfire. I love cassettes but, cant find one thats the right era and with FM. I have seen a couple of 8 Tracks with FM and, i have a few cartridges at home. Just not sure if its worth considering. I know the sound might be a bit but I do have a 8 Track player at home which is ok. I thought i could maybe add an Aux cable to the one i buy and that might sound ok. Any ideas? Any experiance? or anyone with some period correct Audio unit in a Spitfire

I've got an adaptor stashed away somewhere that makes an 8 track player into a radio. You just plug it like you would a cartridge. I am thinking that an 8 track would have been a bit old tech in 1979 and there were some better quality radio cassette players around then.

8-Track players with FM radios do pop up from time to time on eBay. I picked up this one a few years back to fit to my 72 Mini Pickup

Yeah it did cross my mind it could be old tech by then. I just havent seen a good classic looking Cassette that would go with the wood/black & chrome interior. That Sharp looks good but a bit pricey for me.
How does the Harry Moss 8 track sound? I've seen a few similar to that around.

I've never got round to fitting it and now my Mini is off the road awaiting further restoration.
I did test it out by connecting to a battery and an old speaker and it seemed to work OK. Quality was so so but the speaker I used was quite old and naff

You need to be looking for a Radio Cassette player and not an 8 track. I've actually got an old Radio Cassette player somewhere around that I will gladly give you. Its a late 70s early 80s model, I pulled it out of a Scimitar I owned, it was working when I took it out and you are welcome to have it. If you are interested, PM me and I will see if I can dig it out and take some pics for you to decide, ok?

Cheers Zeb, will PM. I think your right about it being too new. It seems a fine line to get something that looks right and is functional too. Had a way too modern Unipart tape deck probably from a montego in there followed by an 80s Clarion that I have but, the cassette section doesn't work anymore... does have FM though ! Haha
