Proudly presented for sale is this rare E36 model Avus Blue M3 saloon from July 1995.
This car has just emerged from a lengthy and detailed restoration. It is in stunning condition and is a fantastic car now for investment or ready to use.
The car itself is an original Avus Blue saloon, with a fine options list from new. It was ordered with headlight washers, cruise control, and electric front seats with split-folding rear seats, which is an incredibly rare option. It has four electric windows, electric mirrors, electric sunroof and air-con. The only deviance from original spec is that the seats, which according to the build-sheet were half leather, have been replaced with full black (Nappa) leather seats, which are also electric and split-folding. This car is optioned far beyond any other 3.0 model we have ever come across.
The restoration, completed August '17, entailed a full respray. The paint was carefully matched, and supervised by our staff, repainting anywhere there was the slightest mark or blemish, until the paintwork was up to our very high standard. The result is one of the best, possibly the best, paintjobs we've ever had, and has drawn other painters around the country to come to inspect (and approve of) it.
During the rebuild many parts were refurbished, and any part that was not in good enough condition to re-use has been replaced, by genuine BMW pieces. The front and rear screen seals have of course all been renewed following paint, and ancillary trims such as the wiper surrounds and so on have all been replaced with new ones. The bill for the genuine new parts on this car stretched well into the hundreds on trim alone. There are no scuffs or marks on any of the side trims, lights or so on, and there are dozens of unseen new clips fitted so no part is loose or wobbly.
The engine was treated to a complete overhaul, despite running fine and with a reasonably low mileage of just 116k. We do this as a matter of course with every M car we restore, as a precaution / for peace of mind. Every hose and gasket is inspected and replaced if necessary, and we fitted brand new ARP bottom end bolts and crank-shaft big-end bearings, before carrying out a service (using correct grade Castrol Edge oil). The result is a quiet, smooth S50 engine, that can be driven without the feeling of impending doom that comes with most M3s that have not had this common failure point addressed.
The rest of the driveline is in good original condition. The underside mechanicals were all inspected prior to cleaning, and the floor and subframes have been protected by a new coating of underseal. Viewing on a lift is available by appointment in order to see this.
The build sheet identifies Style 24 Motorsport alloy wheels - the earlier, forged type particular to the 3.0 car, with the embossed centres. There is a superb set of these on the car, with polished lips and painted centres, and fitted with premium tyres. We do not and will not fit cheap tyres to performance cars as we see so often done elsewhere.
This is surely one of the best M3s on the market, and in much better condition and with a more desirable spec than the last two saloons to be sold in the UK (for considerably more). There is only one small issue with the car, which was deliberately left, as we like to offer cars with something for the new owner to do themselves. We strive to sell cars that a new owner can add a little value to, do a little work to it themself, to get to know their new vehicle. In this case, it is that the drivers seat has a small rip in the side bolster. Yes, we could easily have it re-trimmed, but chose not to for the reason above. We can however have that taken care of, by arrangement with the buyer.
There is MOT in place until 24th August 2018, and there is three months drivetrain warranty. The price is a firm £9995, which represents great value for money, not to mention a great investment opportunity as M3 prices continue to rise fast.
