That car looks very nice with all the attention to details. I agree with Pete to paint the vents in a more glossy paint
I find fitting painted doors one of the most risky jobs and i made some high kind of axle stands specially for this job on my MGB and Rover. With strong tape,i fit a piece of rubber on the top and it works nice. It was difficult to find a piccture of bit it can just be seen on the RH side I knew about the trick of the pins but my painter first painted the inside of the car in body color and also the posts where the hinger will be fitted and then aligned the doors and removed the doors again by removing the hinge screws in the doors. This also works Keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to post the result. Looking forward to your next project Peter
Peter - Many thanks - I have used a trolley jack before today with a wooden block covered in a soft cloth for door support - I want to get the Corsair out of the workshop before the next long term projects come through the door but there is much happening behind the scenes to ensure the parts supply is firmly in hand for all of them - this involves bespoke panels & parts for the next 2 projects - I even have parts on order & specialist works being undertaken by suppliers in hand for a project that is currently number 4 in the work schedule whilst a RR member / client is heavily imbedded in amounting a parts supply / stash for project number 3 - You can say that its pretty much all go

Ah - It would appear that one of my assumptions is incorrect I thought that the upper horizontal section of the inner door was a painted finish but according to Pete's recent pics of the car it has a trim capping covering it - that's 4 minor bits that don't require the flat & polish process then

I'm tempted to leave the door capping off as the paint and frame shape looks so good but there is plenty of time to make my mind up.

Pete - Personally I think it brings just a hint of the outside of the car into the inside - everything else with exception of the headlining & the wood on the dash is black on the interior which I think is just a bit too much black - I will add them back to the polish list then you can then make a decision has you get the interior trimmed back up

Thank you Chris
I can add the top and bottom capping at a later date with out any trouble.
There is a lot of BLACK in the car with all the trim fitted.

Pete - You will probably have to fit the bottom kick plate otherwise this leaves visible holes for the self tappers that retain the plate - there is nothing visible on the top section though so this could be left without the capping if you wished

The quality and commitment going into this non-Ferrari, non Aston-Martin etc car, just blows my mind. And in a good way...no criticism. Both GN and Pete the owner, huge respect to both of you. How many cars of ANY marque get done THIS well, with no shortcuts? Not many. I tip my hat to both of you. John I know only too well from my personal experience with the latest phase on my acty - time and hence money spent is way way beyond the value it could ever reach as a whole but when you have your dream vehicle that you want to keep forever and ever and you want to last forever and ever then IMHO it's worth it. I have every intention of making my garage a shrine to my truck so when it's not at shows I can sit in an armchair and gaze at it in the evenings. (The suggestion of a window to see the garage from the house was frowned upon by mrs minty)

I have already sorted the interior light replacing the festoon bulb with an led replacement and all of the dash lights bar the charge warning light have been replaced with led replacements

Looking really nice Pete. If you want to be an anorak originality geek then the cappings are held on with only half the number of pop rivets you can see holes for. A mate who worked at Fords told me they were paid peace work so by putting half the number there should be they could do it quicker! All the Corsairs I have broken (14) none have had all the rivets lol

You can fit an LED into the charge light if you fit a suitable resistor into the wiring. I did it in mine.

Amongst many other tasks completed today The nearside front door got fitted / adjusted - so that's all the doors now back on the bodyshell Door lock & striker plates also fitted / adjusted The last panel stand was now freed up hence the bonnet could be mounted to the stand ready for final paint Then the boot & bonnet were spot primed as required Then a couple of quite important yet fiddley & unseen jobs Applied seam sealer to the joggled step edge / door skin rebate - although I always work the edge to face down in order to prevent forming a channel that can fill with water or condensation that may run down the inside edge of the door skin - I still like to seam seal these edges - its a faff has you have to work the sealer up into the seam - its not pretty either but no one will ever see this once the door cards are refitted - all four doors completed Next was this - self adhesive sound deadening pads - I had placed them upstairs in the loft (where it was baking hot) so that they were nice & pliable for fitting and the adhesive was warm & tacky I had to cut them down in order work around the access / usable area of the inner face of the door skins along with working around the reinforcing rail on the front doors This will prevent any drumming from the doors which will effectively act has echo chambers without the skins having no sound deadening - There are loads of products on the market that you can achieve this with - these are virtually identical to what was fitted when the vehicle was new - the Dynamat type products although good but IMO are stupidly overpriced for what it is - some people use 'Flashband' which is actually a roofing product but its cheap enough and certainly effective - obviously these type of jobs that require clean surfaces for the adhesion to work all need doing before any cavity wax gets applied (to which nothing will stick)

So Chris, When do you expect to be able to reattach the Mickey Thompson designed mini-dragster front end and ship it off to Pete? Looks FABULOUS! Lance

Lance Quite shortly - it should be completed by the end of next week if all goes to plan - that said if I rushed about a bit it could be out of the doors within a few days - but I'm not one for rushing things
