Not to criticize but just an observation, Ford painted their shells complete with doors, boot and bonnet fitted in one go, red oxide type paint first then a blueish anti rust paint underneath, sound deadening pads were then applied and then the final colour/s. The only loose parts would have been the scuttle vent and rear opening windows of a two door. This is why the hinge end of the boot, bonnet and doors had areas that were quite often missing paint, they certainly never painted with the pedal box etc fitted, that would add extra cost masking those parts. The strip down photos will show paint on the panels after you removed the parts.

Mug is unlike Chris who always makes time to answer questions, especially as he deams none of them stupid (I think mine are, but they're my questions) That's very kind of you to say so - the 'Grumpy' tag comes from my direct manner - I'm known for saying what I see but that's not me being 'Grumpy' - its my personal dislike of having to discuss something for 15 minutes that can be summed up and resolved in a 30 second straight answer that the recipient refuses to take on board or understand - that's not to say that I don't get 'Grumpy' either - I do with any fool or idiot that attempts in the slightest to waste my time - other than that I consider myself has having a great deal of patience (even though I say it myself)

Chris - When we met at the NEC you were very busy but made time to talk to me. Don't take this wrong, but your manner reminded me of my Mother (from Sheffield). She was friendly and would help anyone, but heaven help anyone who wasted her time. You don't know this but I was standing behind you at the Autopaints stand while you were asking about Mirka products. Not wanting you to think that I was following you, as some might, I left you to it and went around the other side to talk to the Autopaints staff there. Your time was important, I was just a tourist.

So my morning excursion to help a fellow Jowett Car Club member on a potential successful vehicle purchase took longer than I anticipated but that's fine - one of the main reasons that I am self employed in the first place is that it allows me to live & work on a flexible basis of my own choosing (its not has though I don't put the hours in either) So yet more flatting and some more tips thrown in - you can amuse yourself by playing dot to dot and joining all the edges & swages up has you flat away Then flat the sections out that are left a piece at a time Until you complete the panel - all simple things to reduce the sheer monotony of the process Other tips - the rubbing down water stains / sticks to everything and despite being coloured water is a stubborn pain to remove if you leave it to dry - so put a plastic sheet in the car to catch what you can and continuously wash down the worked panel areas If you drop the rubbing down paper on the floor - don't reuse it - bin it - we are taking pennies here - its not worth reusing something that will cause you grief if its contaminated with grit / debris etc I would recommend a sweep up of the excess water on regular basis too - leave it and it will just turn a wet mush / dust that you then have to work & paint in And eventually you will get to the point where you have completed the flatting down This is only the bodyshell mind - I still have 4 doors, boot, bonnet, 5 wheels, 10 hinges & other loose parts - but for now they can wait I also removed the masking from the boot area Along with the bonnet area - these are the first 2 areas that will get painted - wait for it 'TOMORROW' But there is a load of prep work to do first before the paint gets applied which I shall largely detail tomorrow - however - high on the list is demask everything - its all contaminated - to apply paint effectively to a car you need the cleanest environment possible to achieve the best results possible Finally you will always know if you have undertaken the wet flatting down process of a bodyshell correctly if you have achieved the following : 1 - Its taken a minimum of 1.5 to 2 days for average sized car like the Corsair 2 - Your arms / shoulders will ache / be sore & painful for a few days 3 - You will have rubbed enough skin off the tips of at least 2 fingers and they will be quite tender & throbbing More tomorrow

I think so but my days often just run into something of a blur - Its currently a very busy period for me with many balls up in the air along with a couple of running chainsaws for good measure and to keep me on my feet - Ah yes just checked it says Friday on my phone - it must categorically be another day - Hmmm - I wonder what today has in store for me - with apologies for the ramblings - the second round of drugs has to kick in yet (my morning drugs = strongish coffee)
