Chris, I'm a little intrigued. Would it not have been easier to paint the inside black first? less masking that way?
It's looking pretty sexy with the black aginst the blue on th front now.

Mark - I like to get paint over the flange edges on the apertures - most people just paint up to them - this in turn tends to leave unpainted / untreated flange edges which is then covered over with either windscreen rubbers or door edge trims / seals - you just need the slightest bit of water / condensation to travel around the rubber / seal and then travel / trap between the flange skins and bingo a rust garden develops - this normally goes unseen until its too late - If I can at least get the more dense paint of the outer panel colour over the edge flanges it at least gives some protection - yes its a little more work but it's made fairly easy now days with products such has polymask

I say the following with complete respect and yes, my Dad truly had a Corsair, but here it is: the quality and commitment going into this non-Ferrari, non Aston-Martin etc car, just blows my mind. And in a good way...no criticism. Both GN and Pete the owner, huge respect to both of you. How many cars of ANY marque get done THIS well, with no shortcuts? Not many. I tip my hat to both of you. John

Fitted the air boxes back into the rear pillars Then assembled the rear vents - note the body caulking around the thread bases in order to prevent water ingress on the inside of the pillar / rear wing Then they could be fitted Pete's instructions for the paint was on the glossy side of satin black but they can always be dulled back if required By the time I had completed this and several other minor jobs the workshop had become an oven exceeding 35c and the loft store was well over 40c - so its been a slowish day Non the less the drivers door got fitted Incoming top tips for single handed door hanging - leave the doors free / unfitted of any locks / windows etc that way making them lighter to handle - protect all painted areas as required with masking tape - make up a suitable stand to support the rear of the door without damaging it If you are painting the car then refitting the doors afterwards you can drill alignment pins once you are happy with the door fit but prior to paint - this aids easy door alignment once everything is painted Done Fitted the door locks & striker plates to the 3 doors that are on the car just so it keeps the doors safe for transport / logistical reasons - these will probably require minor adjustment once the door rubbers & trims are fitted to the car Only the upper horizontal painted section of the inner door frame is visible once the door has been fitted up - these will require a flat & polish whilst I am doing the outer panels of the doors the bottom section is covered with a alloy kick plate whilst a door card covers the central section With one of the panel stands now free I could set it up and mount the boot lid to it ready for paint Ran a cable in for the interior light has this would be awkward to do once the headlining is fitted Lots of other minor bits done too but nothing worth taking pics of yet - more tomorrow

Do the alignment holes get full up with paint and prevent you inserting the pins. Or do you eyeball the alignment holes?
Ps when I read you had power cut due to windfall I immediately thought of someone out there with an electric chainsaw the day before deliberately making cuts to weaken it. Such is our proxy paranoia

That car looks very nice with all the attention to details. I agree with Pete to paint the vents in a more glossy paint
I find fitting painted doors one of the most risky jobs and i made some high kind of axle stands specially for this job on my MGB and Rover. With strong tape,i fit a piece of rubber on the top and it works nice. It was difficult to find a piccture of bit it can just be seen on the RH side
I knew about the trick of the pins but my painter first painted the inside of the car in body color and also the posts where the hinger will be fitted and then aligned the doors and removed the doors again by removing the hinge screws in the doors. This also works
Keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to post the result. Looking forward to your next project Peter

aside from chris' total artisanship , i think pete should be commended for going balls to the wall with this one. how often do you see worthy old things that arent nessecarily "high end" in the majority of peoples eyes getting work completed to this degree of attention?
