I thought that it was to do with getting the metallic particles to lay in the same direction so that they reflected light in the same way. Has already stated by others - with todays paint technology its a lot easier but its still very easy to get it wrong - if the base colour is not mixed sufficiently, the gun pressures are changed etc - its also possible to effect the colour by applying the paint too lightly (lightens the colour) or applying the paint too heavy (darkens the colour) - this becomes critical with metallic / pearlescent finishes - its has much down to experience & techniques has it is down to preparation and the equipment utilised - but you will be amazed at the quality of what some people can turn out of a small workshop and without the overhead of a full blown bodyshop set up

I once had a door resprayed on a silver car that looked grey in some lights when I got it home, I was told this was a result of the spraying method. They resprayed it again and it matched the rest of the car. Any bodyshop that paints a single panel on a silver car and expects a straight match with the surrounding panels are deluded - ok you may get lucky now & again but has a rule its a bit of a pointless exercise - a lot of vehicle owners simply don't understand this - I have seen virtually every panel on a car painted in order to obtain the match for one panel before today - its getting easier with modern paint technology / use of spectrometer colour matching but some jobs can be very difficult to get right when colour matching

i was just thinking myself that the curtains will have been twitching!! Mrs GN reckons that they were taking pics this morning has she walked back up the lane from visiting one of our more friendlier neighbours - if that's what they want to waste their time doing then they are welcome or maybe I should start to charge a location fee ?

I would have thought the fact that you have been working on this for the best part of a year and a half would support the fact that your business is hardly intensive or intrusive.

As far as I am aware you only need a licence for an airgun if it has a self contained gas cartridge to 'power' it. None must not be used within 15mtrs of a road, the pellets cannot leave the grounds from where they are shot and guns cannot be carried openly in a public place. The laws on firearms or replicas of anything that purports to be or could be mistaken for a firearm are tortuous but supposed to be designed to protect everyone.

You only need a license if its power is greater than 12 ft-lbs. CO2 and pre-charged pneumatic ones aren't automatically above the limit. It's a bit of an odd setup, blurred because of previous legislation, but you need no permit or registration for an "air rifle" provided it's below the legal limit for power. If it's above the legal limit, regardless of how it's powered/constructed, the law does not regard it as an air rifle, but instead as a "firearm", for which you need a full Firearms Certificate, which requires more than one hoop to be jumped through to obtain.

The internal panels of the bodyshell would have originally been the exterior body colour - but the thinnest of coverings - virtually none of it is seen once the interior trim is refitted but they might just be the odd bit of minor panel work around the dash frame that is visible which is the reasoning for the satin black There is also a requirement for matt black on the underside of the rear vent trims Front vent intake And around the headlight & grille apertures - just about to get going with the paint when we had a power cut - we are on overhead cables and last nights storm did quite a bit of damage Cable off the supply on the post opposite the house - same thing again on the post behind the workshop, trees had also come down and were spraining the line at bottom of the lane along with trees that severed the cable just at the top of the road - there were about 5 teams on the job for most of the day - we eventually had power restored by 1300 hours so it wasn't too bad In the interim I hung both of the back doors Then applied the matt black With the washer jets connected the front vent grille could be fitted - so still progressing - I will try to sort / hang the front doors tomorrow which in turn will free the panel stands up for the bonnet & boot which are the last panels to go into final colour
