One of the things that has been holding us up, has been deciding which company to work with on the shocks. As one of the key components in the handling of the car, it has been important for us to get this right. So it is with great excitement, that we can announce new sponsors to the Hellraiser project – Nitron. nitron.co.uk/index.phpNitron have been by far the most helpful, flexible and enthusiastic out of all the companies we've spoken to about our project . They have a really good range of products and have been very keen so far getting us to something we're convinced is going to work. We're currently looking at some 3 way adjustable shocks with remote reservoirs which will give us the range of adjustability we need for street and track use, as well as making refinements a doddle. Nitron are a UK company too which means speaking to them is easy. So in line with the new sponsors, comes a new livery for Hellraiser:

Bookmarked. Amazing.
It makes me cry seeing stuff like this. I get out of my depth refilling the windscreen washer bottle, and in the same amount of time it tales me to do that, you do all this.
*Weeps into washer bottle*

Bit of progress... New front half of floor and firewall in place... Planning what happens up the back end... Inner fender aprons in. Waiting on news from the Spanner Monkey re front suspension... i.imgur.com/yKhnGQf.jpgRight. Competition time. Any suggestions as to why the Hell the previous owner cut chunks out of the lower cowl panel? Don't think it's rust of course Chrimbo wishes from Project Hellraiser - I am sure the juxtaposition is not lost on anyone.

time for a bit of an update as life has got in the way a bit.... so we have been busy and things have been plodding on. So time for a few updates. things should start really progressing soon now our antipodean, opposable thumb suspension guru has finally finished pouncing about his paid full time hobby of building and racing drag racers he can now concentrate on his proper unpaid job of building our front suspension arms so While that pesky Spanner Monkey sorts out his curse word, Badhand been researching more stuff.
I've mentioned way back that one of my/our problems is the gearbox. We have the spanking new Tremec, but whilst that's fine for me, but BH has a disability which makes manual changes a bit of a pain.
We've toyed with swapping our Tremec for the new 10 speed. We've thought about utilising a Quaiffe sequential. We've even looked at some basic disabled gear stick mounted hand clutches or developing our own servo assisted wheel mounted clutch. Nothing has felt quite right until this:

Then we has some ews at last from Spanner Monkey Island! Looks like the idle beast has got off his big blue and started fiddling with metal instead of his balls... It's 3mm mild steel with an anti-corrosion coating apparently. Anyway, the 4 shapes on this chunk are the front mounts for top and bottom wishbones. These will sit around the chassis box and be welded to it. Top mount is level with the outside of the chassis box, bottom mount level with the inside. Monkey boy reckons he's been a bit radical with the anti-dive so the bottom wishbone front mount is 100mm down from the underside of the chassis. This apparently angles the lower wishbone down at the front so that under heavy braking the 'bone is not acting parallel to the chassis, thereby reducing the load that the suspension receives. This could also be done by angling the top wishbone backwards, but my hairy friend never felt that was very efficient. The other shapes are the balljoint mount plates. these will have reinforcement gussets around them. The lower mounts will be tied in to the coil-over bottom mount.

Badhand is obsessive about colour,( i am not as i am colour blind ) so rather than rely on web photos for accuracy, he is getting samples of the actual finishes sent over from Forgeline to compare against our Comp Orange Calipers etc. in the flesh. Already, the photos of the wheels and the photos of the samples look quite different. But it's awesome that Forgeline will do this. Probably end up going for a bad ass black combo anyway...

Following on from comments made on Facebook, where Robbie from Steeda UK reckoned that over arches were passé  Vlad the friendly illustrator did his 3d thing for us at a very reasonable price of a six pack of bud and a packet of marlboro menthol and bodged up a quick visual of an alternative to consider. Bear in mind that the top image with bolt on arches is what we were thinking at the start of the project, when we had the renders done. Latest thinking is to fab out of steel and blend in nicely. But before we do, it's worth exploring options innit? We decided to stick with the plan.....

So comes February and at long last the Kiwis stopped destroying the ozone with nitromethanol sprints down one way racing tracks. ..so the drag-ape has stopped dragging his knuckles from strip to strip and has got his hacksaw out at last. Keeping his plans top secret as always but here's a teaser from his Polaroid camera: Upper & lower mount brackets for the front-front wishbone mounts. Holes are 12mm. Square cut out wraps around the chassis. Top mount furthest out, bottom mount low & in.

Not only can spanner monkey use tools he has progressed to geometry at a planet of the apes pace. Scribblings from the Ape's maths book. Plans for the front suspension showing camber-up on bump. From droop to bump in this plan is around 110mm (the standard 4" for this kind of thing) And if you look at the hub, you'll see it goes from parallel (will actually be a couple of degrees in) to 5 degrees at full bump. Ergo, the difference between the wheel at droop vs bump will always be 5 degrees+

Fresh in, photos from the Spanner Monkey troop. After gentle encouragement bordering on facebook intimidation. The monkey has delivering his magic and now taking moody photographs in soft lighting. Well it seems the race season wasn't entirely over and last weekend saw the Monkey pulling some impressive times at the last meet on Island of the Apes. But finally, them 'Bones are coming together. The top wishbones are cut. The slugs are finally the right size and I'm getting excited to see some evidence of both plans and work. These won't be finish-cut until the jig is made, but we just thought you'd like to see some shiny Cold Drawn Steel! More worrying is his new found ability to write and fondness for screw drivers. Needless to say we have hidden the keys to the gun cupboard, just in case.

I like the second render very 1980's Thunder Saloons and Lister XJS I remember them well, suites the concept very well.

Very nice progress update Out of the 2 renders with big arches, the second one with the box arches looks better to my eye. However, it would need to blend in to the sill a bit better I think to be perfect, as it looks a tad unfinished on the lowest crease Nice suspension configuration maths there as well

great progress...looking really mean and purposeful!
I too think that with a bit of fiddling, you could blend some rocker covers in, and perhaps treat the front lower facia to a bit of a blending updates as well, and it would really come together. either way, it looks awesome.

So after a saturday getting burned to hell and being enthused by the retro rides weekend gathering at Goodwood. It is time to report some progress from the other side of the world. Spanner Monkey has been busy, despite wrestling with typical ape type problems ( which end of the banana to peel first ) and higher integrated calculus he has found time to waft his welder the way of hell raiser Behold front suspension arms nearly finished....
