Some of you may have seen this go up the hill at the gathering this year and yes that was me, but sadly I need to move the old girl on.
Here I have my 1971 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow series 1.
Sadly it’s time for me to part with this beast, in the time I have owned it I have driven round round the country (in lots of comfort) and enjoyed it immensely.
I got it off my great uncle and aunt as they got it in part of a will from a long term friend of theirs that sadly passed away, long story cut short I got it off them, it had been sat not really being used in his nice warm garage since about 2007, apart from the time he bought it back out to mot in 2011, I pulled it out the garage and back to mine around end of July this year, tbh I was amazed in how good shape it was considering how it’s been sat for a few years, I have done the following work to get it roadworthy once again.
New fuel filter
New float bowl filters
New carb floats and gaskets
Tank drained, removed, cleaned and sealed with POR15 tank sealer kit
New tank sender gasket
New o/s/r driveshaft boot
8 new spark plugs
Oil, filter and sump washer
Removed and cleaned out header tank, system flushed and new coolant
New wiper blades
New rear section of sills
And probably more that I’ve forgotten
It could still do with a few little bits that I haven’t yet got around to doing that was on my list, could do with another drivers exhaust manifold as it has cracked like they do, I welded as much up as I could but tbh it just needs another one, it could do with a wheel alignment as the wheel is off, the drivers side windows don’t work (motors do, probably a switch), wood could do with re varnishing, self levelling master cylinder seal at the back are weeping (still works) the handbrake doesn’t work, door locks are a bit rubbish (old) and there are few little bits of bodywork here and there but tbh it’s not that bad.
It’s the 6.75L V8 lump, as it’s a series 1 it’s coil sprung so you don’t have to worry about the suspension spheres, it also has a late 80’s Motorola corded phone in the front and mobile phone in the boot.
It has covered 82,700 miles, mot till 10/08/2018 and is tax exempt, the mileage might go up a little as I am using it now and again to go to work, also have the original Rolls-Royce tool kit in the boot along side the jack, also got some spare Rolls-Royce/Bentley brake fluid to do the whole brake/suspension system that’ll I’ll throw in, brakes work perfect but not got around to changing the fluid.
It is an awesome machine that runs like a dream but sadly I know I’m not going to use it and too thirsty for me to use it everyday.
Also comes with private plate, I was going to remove it but I simply haven’t got round to it so will stay on the car for the meantime.
