I bought this beauty yesterday as a base for a rat rod minor.......low, loud, bare metal, clearcoat etc etc....but I just can`t do it to it! It`s just too original, and I absolutely love the patina it already has from years of being used. Personally, it would really be a shame to do anything at all to this, other than maintain it mechanically and preserve the look.
It`s a 1965 car, with only 3 previous owners on the V5. The current owner is the lady I bought it off, who has had it 10 years. It`s done 68000 miles, and has an MOT until mid November. It`s covered less than 1000 miles since the last test, and only had one advisory note, which was the chassis had been welded and coated in underseal. The price, as is now is £1650. I`ll put a fresh MOT on it for £1950.
The paintwork is 95% original. It`s faded, and has rust, but this is where the charm is. I`ve gone over it with an oily rag to preserve it and give it a shine. It could be flat and polished, but that`d be a shame IMO. There`s rust. If you`re afraid of rusty looking cars, don`t buy this! It`s mainly on the rear wings and front panel, all have been photographed though. Again, I like the rust, and like the look it gives. Wheels have been badly hand painted, but original hub caps are on still. Tyres are all matching period Khumo, with loads of tread.
The interior is lovely. The seats, headlining and door cards are unblemished. The carpet is worn in places. The dash is good. All the electrics work (apart from the original radio), just maybe not all at the same time! When I got it, the fuel gauge, indicators and wipers didn`t work. This morning, they did. As did the horn. This afternoon, the horn decided it didn`t want to work ! Typical 60`s car I`d guess.
The engine is an absolute cracker! Starts first time, everytime and I`ve no need to doubt it at all. I`m using it all the time myself now, and will be until it`s sold as it`s got a full tank of petrol. I`ll report back any issues, but don`t envisage any. I even had 70mph out of it! The needle was bouncing between 50 & 70, but I choose to go with 70mph. Gearbox is great too. The clutch is high, and takes a few miles to get used to it. If it can`t be adjusted, then worst case is a new clutch, which is pretty simple on these. I doubt it needs one though, as it doesn`t slip one bit.
That`s about all there is to say. It`s an adorable little Moggy, and gets lots of attention wherever it goes.
I can deliver anywhere on my trailer for £1.25 a mile one way...delivery cost paid upfront.
Fire away with questions, come take a look......have a drive. Be warned though, you`ll fall in love with her!
