Good evening all, I have a car I need to move. I'm based in North Somerset car is in Berkshire. I'd like to rent a car transporter or trailer preferably from North Somerset or Bristol, maybe Wiltshire m4. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

Do you have the appropriate licence? So long as car and trailer (with load ) doesn't exceed 3500 kg you can drive it on a normal car license

But you will struggle renting something I would imagine without the correct C+E. Also it's not just train weight but the tow capacity of the car etc etc.

I know what you mean by the time you get a decent tow car and trailer you might be able to load a matchbox car on it

Hi, yes I've given that some thought. Tow car is 1600kg with tow capacity of 1500kg. car to be towed is a mk1 golf <1000kg but it is bare rolling shell so less than that and as I understand a twin axel trailer is an out 600kg. So should be about alright.
Any suggestions on where to beg, borrow or rent?

Just to male you aware dvsa (was vosa) will go on the trailers plated weight(the max that the trailer can carry) If this is higher than the cars max towing limit they will prosecute for over loading even if your actual weight is under

If it is over weight they won't let you go any further until it's corrected. Your licence may allow you to tow up to 3500kgs, but you mustn't exceed the (GVW)Gross Vehicle Weight or the (GTW) Gross Train Weight, this will be on the weight plate on either the bulkhead or the door shut depending on it's age, If there's no plate then you can't tow with it because it's not authorised. fad You do realise that C+E is a full fat class 1 licence don't you?
