I've got an older blow-torch, and it is pretty useless, as it goes out when used at an angle, and now the gas is empty. It doesn't seem to have enough heat to help with bending metal, and loosening bolts.
Rather than throw good money after bad with more gas, I was thinking of treating myself to a plumbers style MAPP gas torch.
I'm looking at replacing the sills on my Morris Oxford Traveller over the winter, so I've got underseal/rust/metalwork in my future
Is that a handy thing to have around the garage - or shall I look for another tool for my tool-fix ?

If it's mainly for the removal of seized fasteners you can make an induction heater from an old microwave transformer.

I have both types of Rothenberger gas torch, the standard plumber type torch, which is a cracking bit of kit, and a Rothenburger Oxy/Mapp gas torch which is a bit gas thirsty, but is useful for those little jobs that need the bit of extra heat, ideal for leading joints,

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

I got one of these as it turned up on ebay for £28 delivered as it was missing its bottle carry pouch. I have a red propane and a yellow MAPP bottle, so far still on the cheaper propane bottle so cant compare the two but I am happy with it. A bit of a small flame for bigger jobs I would suspect though. Definitely an upgrade from my old diy blow torch.

I've grabbed my superfire 2 out of the van to work on cars loads of times. Gas lasts ages as well.
Yours looks more useful for cars because it takes up less room so awkward angles wouldn't be an issue. It'd be bloody annoying for plumbing though!

I've used it for plumbing, why would it be annoying? (apart from standing the bottle up without the pouch).

I use Mapp gas in work. It's far hotter than your normal gas bottle. The only thing I use it for at home is to warm the blade up to cherry red on the ride on mower every time I bent it

Quite useful if you want to use this kind of stuff: www.alumiweld.com/Though you have to be careful not to melt the ally as well... don't ask me how I know Also freeing stuff off etc. as said before. Forgot to add, also obviously plumbing soldering - put olives on the end of my hard fuel lines with my torch

I finally got hold of a torch and a bottle of gas.
Night and day compared to my old blowtorch.
I've already found a use for it.....
Melting lead out of bodywork repairs prior to welding :-)
