great that you're finally getting to enjoy it... they are a nice place to be... I used mine as a daily for 6 years and driving it still put a smile on my face even the day I sold it. When you floor it and hold it there from a standstill and the acceleration and torque just keeps coming, together with the howl from the supercharger, it's addictive. It was described by one journalist as the feeling like a jet accelerating down a runway for takeoff and that perfectly sums it up. They pull just as hard 120 mph to 130mph as they do 60-70....... I once had mine up to 135 until I bottled it and it was still pulling like a train then... apparently they do that until they hit the limiter at 155..... cars with the limiter off are 170 mph+. A 2 ton car that will pull 0-60 in little over 5 seconds...for less than the price of a 5 yr old Ford KA.... what's not to love? For me these XJR V8's are the epitome of the XJ saloon range.... still low and sleek, fantastically engineered with performance to match. No doubt the modern XJ saloon is a better car, better engineered and better to drive but it doesn't even look like a 'Jag' I grew up with the XJ range from the series 1 up to these last X308's and this will always be the classic XJ shape for me. It has an incredible swell of torque that just keeps on giving. I'd describe it as relentless! I agree about the X308's lines - absolutely timeless, in my opinion. I think the windscreen is original, i was told it worked before. It received a nasty chip from a bird dropping a stone on it whilst it sat broken on the drive.. do you think it could be that?

Many moon's ago I used to collect cars from a Jag service centre in Surrey, Either for windscreen work or tinting, I always used to check the work diary to see if it was an R, Then I would make sure my work mate drove his van, on arrival at the service centre I would leap from the van and go grab the keys, The R's went rather well up dual carriageway on the way back to the workshop! Jolly good fun !
I don't know what your heated windscreen problem is but is the front screen actually a heated one? When these Jags fall into second hand ownership sometimes they don't have heated screens reffitted due to the cost, The stone the a bird dropped onto your screen would if deep enough (unlikely) damage one or two heated elements (lines) at most, Top and bottom of the screen has buzz bar's in the laminate, The top one is mostly hidden but remove the scuttle panel and clean the mud away and you can see the silver buzz bar at the very bottom edge, In between the two buzz bar's are very fine lines ( wiggly wire's) Easiest way to tell is place a piece of paper on the inside of the screen and look from the outside, the lines should be easy to see, Also worth bearing in mind is that the buzz bar at the bottom is the first to get water damage as it sits in trim and that holds moisture which damages the laminate and then corrodes the Buzz bar which then stops the lines working, Although you would normally have some of the lines working, Bottom corners of the screen is where you can find the wire's that power it, these can also corrode where they enter the endge of the screen,
Headlining needs to be removed through the front screen as the rear is to small and will damage the new one,
Maybe if you find the screen is knackered you could combine the two jobs together?
Oh by the way your Jag is a thing of beauty!

Haha, bet that was a fun perk! I used to work in a garage and occassionally had to take Jags up to an expert in Wales about 45 mins away - never got to have a go of an R though! Probably a good thing 😂
Yeah it's definately got the heating elements - it just doesnt seem to do anything. Thanks for the details on how it works- could be invaluable when i start fault finding!

It's been quite a satisfying day today - managed to get a couple of moments outside and made good use of them. The exhaust was still missing the strip that ripped out, so was blowing nastily on the passenger side at the back. It was also slightly rasping from most of the joints in the system. I made a makeshift collar and patched the missing strip, followed by rejigging the rest of the system to get rid of those annoying raspy leaks. I fitted a new LPG cover to replace the smashed, dangly one (see the night pics a few pages back). I also T-Cut a particularly nasty scratch out of the bumper. I think I only have the 'before' pic... a managed to fix my dash vent. I thought the mechanism had come off (the vent was unopenable) but it tured out that an old 90s SatNav screen that had been fitted still had a few bits hanging about behind it. They were well and truly blocking the mechanism! So I tidied it all up and put it back together.. bingo! Working dash vent 😁. I also pointlessly cleaned and polished behind the dash covers, and cut and polished the wood. All in all, a nice satisfying day. I'll report back tomorrow on wether the exhaust remains leak free - i had it running for 20 minutes but figured I'd not drive it 'till tomorrow to give it a fighting chance. Love the gearknob on this Jag: I'm looking forward to trying to get this working, too! 😂 😎

Well most of the exhaust blows are fixed - one has started again though.. they really annoy me, I don't know why!
Heater vent is glorious though 😎
I decided to fill the gas tank and the petrol tank today; I wanted to throw a bottle of injector cleaner through it, and it requires a full tank. I cringed as the total approached £90.... 😯 add that to the £30 of LPG and it made for an expensive trip to the pumps! I'm hoping the super I filled it with, combined with the cleaner will do it the world of good. We shall see!

Anyone know how i might get the phone working? I know it needs a sim in it, but is it possible to actually make it useful? Like receive calls to my mobile through it hands-free? Or would it be purely for novelty's sake?

Get a pay as you go sim for the car, and set your own phone to divert to that car phone if not answered. Thats what an old boss of mine used to do in his one

As suggested, just stick a payg sim in it... giffgaff or something £90 in the tank?... at the height of the high fuel prices around 2011 /2012 I was putting £110 in mine every four days.... they do like a drink.

Haha - that's a nasty fuel bill! Yeah it just surprised me as the most i ever got in the x350 was 80 quid. I actually stopped and looked underneath at one point, just to make sure it wasn't leaking!

In Holland i was able to arrange 2 identical Sim cards for the service people. 1 for in their phones and 1 for in the car. It didn't cost much. That was 10 years ago so i don't know if it is still possible Very nice car btw

Well i appear to have another issue.. if i floor it when running on gas it coughs and splutters then switches back to petrol. On petrol it's fine; it pulls like a demented steam train. I'm thinking of getting the LPG side of things serviced asap. Only thing is, having owned a few LPG cars, it seems it's thr perfect scapegoat. Even LPG pros like to blame it. "The fitters must have been cowboys - i can't help you..." etc. It's one of my least favourite things about owning an LPG car; no one wants to touch it! I'm hoping i have a bit more luck with this one.

I'd give it a go yourself TBH. You're in the best position to ultimately.
After working on them I can see why people don't touch them. It adds on cost due to the extra time and with each system being unique. No one wants to pay either for the service but finding someone competent and willing is part of the battle.
What system is it?

There's a guy on my (not mine, but you know what I mean) UK Range Rover site who seems pretty switched on. His user name is Lgcp. Never known him slag off another fitter or kit, just tries to help people with what they've got. The thread linked... rangerovers.pub/topic/731-advanced-lpg-mappinglooks at a similar problem to yours. Maybe worth a shout? I can link him to this if you'd like.

It's a Romano HD system with the certificate and all the paperwork is present too. I just haven't got a clue about working on LPG (shameful given that this is my 3rd converted car). I'm happy to pay someone in this case as i feel there are saftey implications with gas when 'figuring out'how it works. I've always just got stuck in to work out how things work and try to fix them, but LPG scares me!

That'd be great, thanks mate! Done. Hey, Lpgc.
Don't know if you want to branch out, but I've been a member on another forum for a few years now, and a guy is having issues with a 2001 XJR switching to petrol under heavy acceleration.
This is his take, and it sounds a familiar lament...

In less 'get it running right' news, i just received my latest eBay purchase; a new set of mats. Strangly, even though the carpets are mint (unusual for a high-miler) it didnt have any in it at all when I bought it. Anyway, we like pics 'round these parts! Not the most exciting pics, but pics none-the-less. Excuse the state of it - I've cleaned the interior once since buying it! Also, note my daughter's new bucket seat 😁

Do you have model numbers on the injectors and the vapouriser? If the they are wrong (mainly the vapouriser) it will never work on it. But it is fixable.
On my Mondeo V6 I had normal injectors but a "Super" vapouriser for this very reason. Alot of people do it the other way around, which is what my first V6 had done. yup, I've bought some LPG cars in the past and torn my hair out many a time ; We used to convert them for a living.
The easiest thing to do which you can do yourself is to change the two filters. One on the vaporiser solenoid (a pre-filter) and the main filter between the vaporiser and the injectors. The main filter is dead easy to change. The small filter is trickier but doable. Sometimes it's cheaper just to buy the solenoid assembly itself over just the filter.
