Did you listen for the hiss of air escaping when you had your leakdown tester hooked up? It's usually pretty easy to hear where the air is leaking out from if you bung a bit of hose to your earhole and then listen in the inlet port of each cyl, exhaust port and sump. 25% leakdown sounds like a load, but that might just be to do with the tester being homemade, my moroso tester usually shows 3-4% on a tight freshly built motor. Hitting the dyno straight after the rebuild my well have not let the rings seat, so i'd listen for air leakage down into the sump to confirm. What ring gap are you running? The rule of thumb is 3.5 thou per inch bore diameter minimum, it's hard to tell from your pic but it looks tight maybe. Edited to add - s**t didn't see your last post there so disregard the above, that sucks man! How rich was it running, i've seen stuff that's as rich as 10:1 afr that has not suffered borewash, you usually need to be running so rich it'll barely run and belches black smoke outta the tailpipe. Did you check for cylinder taper and ovaility after it was bored, maybe not done right in the 1st place because i don't see any pickup/galling on your cylinder wall pics on page 5. This was my first proper build from the ground up......so trusted the people I paid to do things for me. The bloke I used to bore the engine got a couple of measurements back to front from what I asked, so he probably bored engine wrong too. The bloke I used for the mapping has done naff all.....hasn’t even set the base timing right (after checking things over) and made a mess of the fuel map. Suppose it’s true, you get what you pay for 😧 Found someone local this time and have a bit more trust in them, they’re asking more technical questions about what I want....which helps me learn to I guess. Hopefully I can learn from these mistakes and get a decent engine working

Haha, yup finding good people is a nightmare these days, i went through thirteen! machine shops before i found one that could cut an (almost) concentric valve seat.
I ended up learning Megasquirt mapping myself because most out there aren't that good, and just know a tiny bit more than the customers, which is just enough to baffle with bullsit. The difficult bit with mapping isn't W.O.T./max power stuff anyway, it's stuff like cold starting under all conditions, Air density corrections, transients etc, all that stuff takes time (i.e. you can only do one or two cold starts in a day) and generally a mapper won't have time to do all that stuff in a days session anyway so it just doesn't get done.
Might be worth getting a few precision measurement tools to blueprint your next build; whilst cooking spec motors can often be thrown together and work fine 12:1 CR 8000rpm builds take no prisoners.
Stuff like a couple of mic's for piston dia's crank pins etc, a dial bore gauge and some proper feeler gauges (ebay specials are s**t and nowhere near accurate) & Plastigauge for bearing clearances. Usually some good quality Mitutoyo or Starret stuff can be found on the ebay auctions for cheap.

Right......got all my bits back 👍😎 Cga block re-bored/honed 3mm off the deck New corsa pistons/rings New main/big end bearings Crank polished Head diy port/polish, longer cr12 valves cut in, 2mm skim I’ve got some cat cam springs coming too 👍 Big dent in bank account 😭😮

Got my valve springs through, so can rebuild the head 👍 Longer valves so I don’t have to double up the shims, plus they’re under Cr12 buckets, so no chance of spitting them out New cg13 clutch, fitted to cg10 spline.......should stop the grinding noise whilst engaging gear ...........and because I’m a curse word idiot, and didn’t check the cc in the head correctly before skimming it, I’ve had to get a de-comp plate from Ferriday Engineering to bring the c/r back down to 12:1 It was nearly 17:1 😂😮 If it don’t work, then I’ve wasted all that time and effort polishing that head 😕

I was going to question the 2mm skim of head and 3mm of block! 17:1 would explain that Although if you had some really lairy cams you could build a proper screamer at that compression ratio Hope it all goes together well for you tho

Yeah man, no valves/pistons mashing together 👍
Got family stuff, and doing my first tough mudder this weekend, but should have it all in and hopefully running next week 😎

All back in, just waiting on a couple of gaskets. .........what’s the correct way to bed in the fresh pistons/rings/bearings? Which oil to use?

Theres many trains of thought for bedding in, however for me I did; 500miles of little to no idling, and no more than 3/4 max rpm on semi synthetic oil. Oil and filter change at those 500 to fully synthetic and away I went Done almost 80k on the lump now without any dramas (oil leaks excluded, don't get me started on those) Pretty sure the engines my friend used to built in the GTI challenge (16v mk2 Golfs) were built up, installed, fed oil and coolant and run at fast idle to purge the cooling system and check for leaks and then rolling roaded and raced

For running in I can't imagine it doing any worse than a semi synth

Don't let it idle too much (if at all) And don't be too gentle driving it about
