I know I'm quite new here, and some of you guys have already seen the posts in my build thread, but please have a read of this PSA regarding EFI fuel hose. I want to get some coverage of this issue so that no one gets stung and ends up with a pile of ashes where their beloved car used to be. If you have used any fuel hose with this printed on it, you are possibly in danger of it failing. The hose is being sold as a rating that it may not be, and it cracking and failing after a short period of time. PSA Low Quality Fuel Hose

Given the responses on your thread, this is pretty timely.

Aww man. I'm currently changing the engine in a 1992 Peugeot 205 to one which uses fuel injection at around 3bar. Having done a fair bit of research on what fuel hose I should be using quite a few sources stated only use SAE J30 R9 fuel hose as others degrade prematurely due to the additives in modern fuel. Due to this I've bought enough hose to do what I want to achieve but now I don't feel safe to use it.
For the benefit of myself and any others who read this, what hose should we be buying?
EDIT: Apologies, read the article now and it appears that R9 is fine but there's dodgy versions of it. Am I right in thinking if it has the hose spec on the hose it's bad?

If the spec is printed similar to the above photo, with no brand name or anything on it, i wouldnt use it. SAE j30 R9 is a good, legit spec, but this hose doesnt meet that spec (despite having it printed on it and being sold as it)

Hi, Getting it off a reputable supplier would be better than getting it off ebay.

I have a good source of fuel hose, with the bloke based here actually . I've had these issues as well. One fuel hose which is safe is Gates Barricade, but sourcing it from a reputable supplier. Cheap however it isn't.

Hi, Getting it off a reputable supplier would be better than getting it off ebay. Colin If you read the post you will see that even though i purchased it from eBay, it was from what i understood to be a "reputable" supplier, and would have had the same issue had i purchased it direct from their website. But yes i agree, eBay is bit of a minefield for cheap dodgy stuff.

Yup, I've had some really curse word fuel hose like this - It seems to go porous from the inside out and delaminates, so that only the 1mm thick outer layer is keeping it sealed. Had it on my T25 and a couple of mates had the same. Mine was EFI pressure, theirs were just carbed VW splitties. It lasted 3 months on the splitties, and about a year on mine.
I think my hose came off ebay but they got it from GSF/ECP or something.

Me too, brought from a reputable supplier, lasted about a year. Now replaced with this and brass compression fittings.

I've been using hose suitable for 100% bio fuel in the Manta for the last couple of years with no problems. All other rubber/nitrile hoses I used in my previous Manta used to go porous in less than a year.

Bump. Seems there are a few more sellers of this rubbish on eBay now, so keep your eyes peeled and stay alert. Its not worth buying this hose.
I have resorted to using my leftover as coolant and breather pipes, as its no good for fuel. It probably wont last long with coolant or fumes either, but at least its in places that are easy to change now.

Cohline hose or Gates Barricade. You merely chose to ignore both .

No, i didnt "choose to ignore both", as i had purchased the fake hose long before i knew it was an issue, or asked about it. I have already replaced the hose in question with far more reliable Codan fuel hose, but i want to spread the word about the fake hose as its still catching people out and its not safe. I still have over a meter of unused fake hose that instead of throwing away I'm using in other, less critical, situations.

Another option is the gates j30 r10 submersible grade so the outer is fully fuel safe too . Have this on one of my cars and still perfect 7 yrs on . £15 a foot though

I can vouch for this - my fuel hose cracked and leaked in under a year and a half. I thought it was because it was exposed to the elements, but this could easily be why.

This was the fuel line on my range rover after 18 months. Bought from a local factors in packaging labelled as fuel injection hose. The replacement came from Demon tweeks, seems to be fine so far.
